About The Position

The Assistant Groundskeeper assists with all aspects of athletic and intramural field maintenance, including turf care, event preparation, and equipment maintenance. The role also assists with other campus grounds projects as needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Current, valid driver’s license in the State of Alabama.
• Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment; occupational hazards; and trade safety precautions.
• Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds.
• Ability to perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, and walking significant distances.
• Ability to work within extreme temperature ranges.
• Ability to exercise tact and discretion with customers and the public, including meeting reasonable standards of personal appearance.
• Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in turf management.
• General knowledge of rules and regulations specific to college-level athletics.

Responsibilities

• Maintain athletic and intramural fields, including mowing, edging, and fertilizing.
• Prepare athletic and intramural fields for competition.
• Operate light and heavy equipment, such as backpack blowers and sprayers.
• Maintain and safely store equipment and tools.
• Assist with other campus grounds projects as needed.
