About The Position
This is a year-round, full-time, non-exempt position for someone who enjoys working outdoors, performing landscaping tasks, or learning and improving landscaping skills. Groundskeepers help keep all outdoor areas of the campus clean, beautiful, and safe for guests and co-workers. The position reports to the Grounds Manager.
Requirements
- Must desire to work outdoors year-round.
- Must be self-motivated, trustworthy, and conscientious.
- Must work well independently with limited or no supervision and as part of a team.
- Must be able to safely lift and carry equipment and loads frequently exceeding 50 pounds.
Nice To Haves
- One to two years of landscaping experience is preferred, but not required.
Responsibilities
- Keep the campus free from litter.
- Clean spills from walkways.
- Maintain water features.
- Perform fall and spring landscape cleanups.
- Operate power equipment such as blowers, string trimmers, and chainsaws.
- Mow grass using push mowers, riding mowers, or zero-turn mowers.
- Trim and edge turf grass areas.
- Plant and maintain ornamental plants and trees.
- Landscape and hardscape new and existing areas.
- Apply pesticides, including herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides.
- Apply plant fertilizers.
- Repair and maintain outdoor structures, including walking paths, nature trails, and fences, and perform some minor repairs to building exteriors.
- Operate a Gator Utility Vehicle safely and cautiously.
- Help with snow removal in winter.
- Assist with campus-wide events such as concerts, Apple Fest, and Octoberfest.
