About The Position

Providence Country Club is seeking a First Assistant Superintendent to join our Agronomy Team. This role offers professional growth and development within a dynamic golf course maintenance operation. The candidate will be responsible for operating equipment, irrigation scheduling, troubleshooting, and repairs, chemical and fertilizer applications, water and moisture management, weekend crew supervision, and staff management. The First Assistant will work closely with the Superintendent to plan and execute short-term and long-term goals, and their input will be valued. This position is ideal for an honest, hardworking individual with the drive to become a Golf Course Superintendent.

Requirements

  • 2-4 year Turf Certificate/Degree
  • Good problem solving and communication skills
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Basic turf knowledge and golf course maintenance practices
  • Working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course tees, fairways and greens
  • Working knowledge of seeding and maintenance practices for golf course turf
  • Working knowledge of planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs and trees
  • Working knowledge of characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners
  • Working knowledge of herbicides and pest control methods and materials
  • Working knowledge of drainage control methods
  • Working knowledge of irrigation systems, including wells, pumps and automatic controls
  • Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment
  • Ability to prepare clear and concise reports
  • Ability to maintain effective employee and public relations
  • Ability to lift heavy objects

  • Overseeing, directing, and participating in daily maintenance of the golf course tees, greens, fairways, and cart paths
  • Supervising the maintenance and repair of motorized and other mechanical equipment
  • Serving in the Superintendent's capacity during his/her absence
  • Scheduling work and supervising employees and equipment usage
  • Instructing equipment operators on operation and care of mowing and other equipment
  • Supervising pesticide applications and/or operating and calibrating pesticide application equipment
  • Supervising and participating in the operation and maintenance of pumps
  • Maintaining irrigation and drainage systems
  • Assisting in personnel management and evaluation, employee safety, and personnel discipline
  • Upholding safety and environmental standards
  • Modifying the daily work schedule based on professional interpretation
