This position is responsible for coaching student athletes in game strategies and techniques to prepare them for athletic competition. The role requires adherence to the NFHS Coaches Code of Ethics, modeling non-discriminatory practices, and assuming complete responsibility for the conduct of the team. The coach will also be responsible for the philosophy and teachings of the entire athletic program, if applicable. Availability for contests and practices from Monday through Saturday and some holidays is expected. The coach will supervise the use, issuance, return, cleaning, inventory, and storage of equipment, uniforms, and supplies, and submit equipment and supply requests to the Athletic Director. Establishing positive relationships with coaches, athletes, parents, and community members is key. The coach must attend meetings called by the Athletic Director or Building Principal, as well as league, section, and coaches’ association meetings when required. Responsibilities include conducting an organization meeting with athletes to explain tryouts, selection methods, cutting procedures, and the code of conduct. Preparing and submitting a schedule of scrimmages and non-league contests to the Athletic Director in a timely manner is also required. The coach must follow established procedures for athlete injuries, submit initial and final rosters, and report scores when required. Notification of canceled games, scrimmages, or practices, and any unusual events or incidents, to the Athletic Director and Building staff is necessary. Supervision of team members after practices/games until they have left the locker room, been picked up, or left the building/grounds is expected. The coach will complete end-of-season reports and comply with all policies and procedures outlined in the NYS Commissioners regulations, NYSPHSAA Section VI, and BPS Interscholastic Athletic Handbook. Decision-making regarding the team should align with established policies, with broader scope decisions reserved for the Athletic Director. The coach will assess player skills, monitor players during competition and practice, and model sports-like behavior. Participation in special activities like parent's night, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies is also part of the role. Support tasks include distributing and maintaining eligibility forms, emergency data cards, and other related records. Additional duties involve attending staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance, and performing any other related duties as assigned.
