This position is responsible for coaching student athletes in game strategies and techniques to prepare them for athletic competition. The coach must adhere to the NFHS Coaches Code of Ethics, model nondiscriminatory practices, and assume complete responsibility for the conduct of their team. They are also expected to assume responsibility for the philosophy and teachings of the entire athletic program, if applicable. Key duties include being available for contests and practices from Monday through Saturday and some holidays at the start of the athletic season. The coach will supervise the use, issuance, return, cleaning, inventory, and storage of equipment, uniforms, and supplies, and submit requests to the Athletic Director. Establishing positive relationships with coaches, athletes, parents, and community members is crucial. The role involves attending various meetings called by the Athletic Director or Building Principal, as well as league, section, and coaches’ association meetings when required. The coach will conduct an organizational meeting with athletes to explain tryouts, selection methods, cutting procedures, and the code of conduct. They are responsible for preparing and submitting scrimmage and non-league contest schedules, following established procedures for athlete injuries, submitting and updating rosters, and reporting scores to news media. Notifying staff of cancellations and supervising team members until they have left the premises are also essential. The coach must complete end-of-season reports and comply with all relevant policies and procedures. Decision-making for their team should align with established policies, reserving broader issues for the Athletic Director. The position also involves assessing player skills, monitoring performance, modeling sports-like behavior, and maintaining appropriate conduct towards all stakeholders. Participation in special activities like parent’s night, banquets, and pep assemblies is expected, along with performing administrative support tasks such as maintaining eligibility forms and emergency data cards. Continuous professional development through staff meetings, clinics, and other activities is encouraged, and the coach will perform any other related duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or Principal.
