About The Position

The Assistant General Manager supports the overall success of a Salt & Straw shop by leading people, operational execution, and guest experience in a fast-paced retail and food service environment. Working closely with the General Manager, this role supports daily operations, builds and develops strong teams, drives operational excellence, fosters an engaging and inclusive shop culture, and helps make the shop a neighborhood destination. The role is full-time and pays $22.90–$24.27 per hour, with quarterly bonus potential and a broader wage range of $22.90–$27.99.

The position involves leading shifts, supporting hiring and training, overseeing cash, inventory, product quality, and food safety, and assisting with payroll, supplies, communications, and documentation. The Assistant General Manager also monitors labor and sales performance, contributes to monthly P&L insights, supports maintenance and vendor communication, provides hospitality and resolves guest concerns, and participates in community events. The work environment may expose employees to common food allergens, including peanuts, tree nuts, dairy, eggs, soy, wheat, and seafood.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 2 years of food service, fast-casual dining, or hospitality experience.
• At least 18 months of progressive leadership experience.
• Experience leading teams of 10 or more Team Members in a high-volume environment.
• Ability to coach, develop, and support people with clarity and care.
• At least 18 years old.
• Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Partner with the General Manager to achieve operational, cultural, and financial goals.
• Lead shifts to ensure smooth operations and exceptional guest experiences.
• Plan and execute daily shift schedules, task assignments, and team safety.
• Coach, mentor, and provide feedback to Team Members, Shift Coordinators, and Scoopers.
• Support recruiting, hiring, onboarding, training, and retention of a high-performing team.
• Manage cash transactions and inventory, and ensure product quality and food safety.
• Assist with payroll, supplies, shop communications, and daily documentation.
• Monitor labor and sales performance and support monthly P&L insights.
• Partner on maintenance needs and vendor communications.
• Deliver memorable hospitality, share flavor stories, and resolve guest concerns.
• Step into team roles as needed and participate in community events.
