About The Position

The General Counsel – Renewables will play a key role in expanding Unison’s renewable energy business with landowners and renewable energy developers. We seek experienced counsel with demonstrated success accelerating a pipeline of transactions to closing, facilitating transactions with other developers, and exercising sound judgment to assess, underwrite, and manage portfolio risk. This is a working General Counsel that will actively manage and participate in closing transactions and growing the business. You will interact regularly with team members from senior management, origination, pricing, and property management.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience as a lawyer in law firm or renewable energy developer settings.
  • Experience with renewable energy development or asset ownership.
  • Member in Good Standing of State Bar.
  • Fluency with technology including Office 365, Teams, SharePoint, and Salesforce.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% domestically for in-person team meetings, important customer meetings, industry events, and annual international travel for company all-hands meetings.
  • Entrepreneurial and collaborative team spirit.
  • A love of adventure and passion for learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize deal flow and exercise sound business judgment.
  • Outstanding oral, written, and analytical skills.

  • Strong real estate experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a closing pipeline of lease acquisitions across North America and coordinate closing support from the finance, origination, legal, and senior management teams.
  • Oversee lease acquisitions by in-house attorneys and prepare underwriting for senior management.
  • Evaluate, structure, and assist negotiations with renewable energy developers for sale leaseback and land financing opportunities.
  • Assist the Head of Renewables in developing new ground lease-based products to support renewable energy developers and owner/operators.
  • Assist in the evaluation of new markets, including entity setup, compliance, KYC, and creating and validating real estate transaction structures consistent with company underwriting and risk profile.
  • Advising on various commercial and corporate matters.
