About The Position

The New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented attorney with experience in regulatory, litigation, and contracts to assist with a variety of assignments related to major DOT initiatives and programs. The role involves investigating and responding to EEO complaints of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation, requiring knowledge of Title VII claims and Citywide EEO policies. Responsibilities include reviewing case merits through document review and employee interviews, and submitting responses to administrative agencies like CCHR, SDHR, or EEOC. The attorney will also manage a caseload of state and federal court complaints, oversee document production for discovery requests, and participate in mediations and settlements. Additionally, the position may involve projects related to accessibility issues, such as the Pedestrian Ramp Program, and advising DOT project teams on best practices for removing accessibility barriers. Other duties include drafting and reviewing legislation, rules, and various agreements, conducting research and policy reviews, and assisting with other legal assignments. The successful candidate must be able to handle a high volume of matters under tight deadlines, possess strong communication skills, and be able to prioritize projects.

Requirements

  • Admission to the New York State Bar.
  • One year of satisfactory United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any state bar.
  • Must remain a Member of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of employment.
  • One year of experience at Assignment Level I or two years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment (to be assigned to AL II).
  • Two years of experience in Assignment Levels I and/or II or three years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment (to be assigned to AL III).
  • Regulatory experience.
  • Litigation experience.
  • Contract experience.
  • Ability to handle a high volume of matters.
  • Ability to function under tight time constraints.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize projects.

Nice To Haves

  • Six months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Interne (30086).
