Your Role: Assistant General Counsel, Trademark & Brand Innovation As the Assistant General Counsel for Trademark and Brand Innovation, you will be a key member within our global Intellectual Property (IP) team. You will serve as a strategic legal partner, responsible for protecting and strengthening Elanco's valuable portfolio of trademarks, trade dress, and copyrights worldwide. This is a highly collaborative role where you will provide critical counsel to business and legal stakeholders, assess and mitigate risk, and develop creative solutions to complex IP matters, directly contributing to the success of our brands and our mission of enriching life.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor with an active State Bar registration in good standing.
  • 5+ years of dedicated experience in trademark and copyright law, either in-house or at a law firm.
  • Deep expertise in global trademark portfolio management and enforcement, coupled with the ability to provide strategic, risk-based counsel to senior business leaders.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • An undergraduate or advanced degree in a scientific field, particularly chemistry or biochemistry.
  • Experience in the animal health, crop science, or pharmaceutical industry.
  • USPTO registration as a Patent Attorney.
  • Previous in-house legal experience.
  • Strong business acumen and a collaborative mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic legal counsel to global business partners on soft IP-related matters, including risk evaluation, mitigation strategies, and due diligence for potential acquisitions.
  • Manage the global enforcement of the company’s IP rights, including overseeing anti-counterfeiting measures, handling disputes, cease and desist correspondence, and UDRP/TTAB proceedings.
  • Draft and negotiate a variety of IP-related agreements, such as coexistence, consent, and settlement agreements.
  • Oversee all aspects of the global trademark and copyright portfolio, including conducting and reviewing searches, advising on procurement, and managing outside counsel.
  • Educate and advise legal and business stakeholders on intellectual property fundamentals, trends, and developments.
