The Assistant Fire Chief shall serve under the direction and supervision of the Fire Chief and is a member of the Fire District’s Executive leadership team. In the absence of the Fire Chief shall assume the duties of the Fire Chief until his/her return. Shall provide leadership and assists the Fire Chief in administrative direction for the Fire District. Be responsible for the day-to-day operations, functions, and personnel, including fire suppression, emergency medical response services, emergency preparedness planning, and programs as assigned across the organization. Additionally, the Assistant Fire Chief ensures open and professional communications with the Fire District, partner agencies, and the public in matters of safety and concern related to district activities. He/She also keeps the Fire Chief advised of significant activities, issues, and concerns affecting the Fire District. This is an administrative level position within the Fire District. The Assistant Fire Chief serves as the primary operational leader and is responsible for the administration, coordination, and oversite of Fire District operations, personnel, and assigned functional divisions. The position exercises broad authority over daily operations and organizational functions and acts on behalf of the Fire Chief as assigned. The Assistant Fire Chief oversees and directs Battalion Chiefs in support of Fire District Operations. Additional guidance is provided by the district’s Fire and EMS Policies, Procedures and Protocols, Standard Operating Guidelines, the Employee Manual, and other applicable regulations, and federal and state law. Work is evaluated annually by the Fire Chief utilizing the districts performance evaluation system.
