About The Position

We are hiring 3 Fire Battalion Chiefs (56 hours per week) with a passion for firefighting and patient care combined with the drive to succeed and deliver high-quality service. This position is contingent upon contract award. Employment is conditional on Rural Metro Fire / Capstone being awarded the referenced contract and is subject to successful completion of all pre-employment requirements, including background check, drug screening, and any client- or contract-specific clearances. Start date will be determined following contract award and may be adjusted based on the contract's period of performance. Candidates selected through this posting will be notified of their status once the award decision is finalized. Job Summary: Fire Battalion Chief plans, organizes, and directs the emergency service operations of a full-service Fire/EMS/Rescue emergency response agency. Accountable for the overall support and direction within the area of responsibility. Directs planning, organization, and control of assigned facility in accordance with all company philosophies, strategies, goals, objectives, principles, and procedures. Responsible for direction and supervision of all assigned personnel, may include scheduling, supervising, and training staff, responding to and directing at emergency scenes, conducting prevention activities, and completing special projects as assigned. This is considered a confidential, safety sensitive position and is subject to both the Company’s and the Client’s Industrial Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy, which includes: pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing, and follow-up testing.

Requirements

Valid Driver’s License.
County, State and/or National EMT-B credentials (highly desirable).
Must possess AHA CPR/AED credentials.
Physical Agility Fitness Test (Initial Hire and Annually).
Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university, OR seven years related experience and training, OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
State, IFSAC, or PROBOARD Firefighter 1 & 2 certification (NFPA 1001)
State, IFSAC, or PROBOARD Fire Officer 1 (NFPA 1021)
Hazardous Materials First Responder Operations (FRO) (state, IFSAC, PROBOARD)
Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) or higher
Proven leader with Chief Officer experience and a history of managing a field operations team.
Proven ability to develop annual operating plans with clearly defined objectives and target markets.
Proven knowledge of local, state and federal rules and regulations as applied to the fire and emergency service industry.
Proven knowledge of “best practices” information sources and organizations available to fire service leaders.

Responsibilities

Abides by the Company’s rules, regulations, policies, procedures, mission, guiding principles.
Conducts crew inspections, reviews reports, and investigates complaints to ensure compliance with Company policies, rules and procedures.
Maintains clear, timely, and accurate communications between company/customer management, administration staff, and personnel to ensure that standby services and support activities achieve company objectives.
Keeps superior officers adequately informed of problems and proposes alternative solutions for consideration.
Assists the Company Regional Director in preparing the resources required to provide high level services.
Projects a positive image to individuals and groups as a professional, competent and helpful manager.
Prepares timely and accurate reports as assigned for the Regional Director regarding the work activities of their subordinates, and activities.
Assures that all personnel under their supervision are adequately trained and appropriately informed regarding their duties and responsibilities.
Works as a team member within all company divisions, personnel, and activities.
Plans and oversees quality of the operations and field crews, including the monitoring of work standards, productively, acceptable work quality and service.
Provides technical assistance to Captains and other staff in the completion of their work and personally handles or directs complex tasks or multi-crew projects.
Maintains a competent and motivated work force, with emphasis on first-line supervisor accountability, through work assignments, performance evaluation, counseling, training, and managing member performance improvement actions.
Maintains safety as the number one objective for all personnel. Enforces common safety standards and demonstrates that the belief is all accidents and injuries are preventable and unacceptable.
Identifies ways to improve and streamline operations, training, equipment, and maintenance programs, including the cost and benefit of possible improvements.
Assesses service delivery effectiveness and identifies challenges, such as the status of equipment, effects of training activities, training needs, and utilization of staffing in response to workload and takes corrective action in consultation with the Regional Director.
Communicates Company goals and objectives to all personnel under their supervision. Monitors the implementation of these goal and objectives for their work programs and takes corrective actions as necessary.
Maintains high customer service and communicates with the customer or representative directly to assess job performance and possible needs.
Monitor attendance vs. policy and appropriate action when needed to maintain the standard.
Performs additional duties as required.
