About The Position

Responsible for supporting the daily maintenance, organization, sanitation, safety, and operational functionality of the LIC Commissary facility. This role helps ensure the commissary operates efficiently, safely, and in full compliance with all applicable health, safety, and building regulations. The Assistant Facilities Manager will work closely with the Facilities Manager, commissary leadership, outside vendors, maintenance personnel, and porter staff to maintain a clean, organized, compliant, and fully operational environment.

Requirements

  • Previous facilities, maintenance, or commissary/food production experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of NYC DOH food safety and sanitation standards preferred.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic understanding of building systems, maintenance procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends when necessary.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and move moderate to heavy objects when necessary.
  • Ability to work in refrigerated, kitchen, and production environments.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate routine maintenance and servicing of commissary equipment including ovens, refrigerators, dishwashers, ventilation systems, and kitchen machinery.
  • Assist in scheduling and overseeing emergency repairs when necessary.
  • Communicate and coordinate with external vendors, contractors, and maintenance personnel.
  • Monitor equipment performance and report operational concerns promptly.
  • Ensure compliance with all NYC Department of Health (DOH) and Department of Agriculture (DOA) regulations.
  • Support efforts to maintain an “A” rating during NYC DOH inspections.
  • Oversee daily sanitation protocols and deep-cleaning schedules.
  • Monitor waste disposal procedures, grease trap cleanings, and ventilation system maintenance.
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of bathrooms, locker rooms, employee break areas, front café areas, and common operational spaces.
  • Manage and direct kitchen porter staff to ensure cleanliness, organization, and operational standards are consistently maintained.
  • Assist with assigning daily cleaning responsibilities and monitoring completion of tasks.
  • Support ongoing accountability, organization, and sanitation standards throughout the facility.
  • Conduct routine facility inspections to identify potential safety hazards.
  • Assist in implementing and monitoring safety procedures and protocols.
  • Ensure fire extinguishers, emergency exits, and first aid stations remain compliant and operational.
  • Support staff training related to safety, sanitation, and operational compliance.
  • Monitor water, gas, and electrical systems to ensure proper functionality.
  • Coordinate pest control services and preventative maintenance programs.
  • Assist in managing facility-related supply inventory and ordering.
  • Maintain accurate records related to inspections, repairs, sanitation logs, and compliance requirements.
  • Prepare documentation for regulatory inspections and operational audits.
  • Assist with managing permits, certifications, and required facility documentation.
  • Serve as a point of contact for facility-related vendors and contractors.
  • Assist in managing relationships and service schedules for cleaning companies, maintenance providers, pest control vendors, and equipment service contractors.
