About The Position

GAI Consultants is looking for an Assistant Engineering Manager for our Glen Allen, VA or Pittsburgh, PA office. Your responsibilities in this position will include leading business development initiatives, managing projects within the Power Generation industry, and leading civil engineering tasks. This role applies thorough knowledge of current principles and practices of engineering related to the variety of aspects affecting their practice. The Assistant Engineering Manager applies progressively acquired expertise to resolve crucial issues and/or unique conditions, keeps informed of new methods and developments affecting their practice, and recommends new practices or changes in emphasis of projects. They will lead projects of moderate complexity and scope or lead a major project, analyze complex problems across specialty areas appropriate to the practice of engineering, and analyze ethical dilemmas to determine appropriate courses of action. Travel throughout the Mid-Atlantic for Public Hearings and Community Meetings is expected (10%).

Requirements

Minimum 10+ years of experience
B.S. or M.S. in Engineering
Professional Engineer (P.E.) License
Reciprocity in multiple states

Responsibilities

Leading business development initiatives
Managing projects within the Power Generation industry
Leading civil engineering tasks
Applying thorough knowledge of current principles and practices of engineering
Applying progressively acquired expertise to resolve crucial issues and/or unique conditions
Keeping informed of new methods and developments affecting their practice and recommending new practices or changes in emphasis of projects
Leading projects of moderate complexity and scope or leading a major project
Analyzing complex problems across specialty areas appropriate to the practice of engineering
Analyzing ethical dilemmas to determine appropriate courses of action
Serving as the technical advisor for the practice in the application of advanced concepts and methods in an assigned area
Developing new techniques and/or improved processes, materials, or products
Analyzing sustainable performance of complex engineering projects from a systems perspective
Planning, scheduling, and coordinating the preparation of documents or activities for multiple major projects or being responsible for an entire project of a practice
Analyzing project management plans for complex engineering projects
Understanding project delivery uncertainties and using risk management principles to address them
Reviewing operational procedures to ensure compliance with applicable policies and performance measures
Serving as the Project Manager for certain projects with prior approval from GAI's President up to $50,000 per year
Supervising a staff of engineers and technicians
Providing continued mentored experience to senior staff
Integrating professional attitudes relevant to the practice of engineering and fostering creativity, curiosity, flexibility, and dependability in staff
Applying principles of formal strategic and persuasive communications
Representing their area of specialty within the practice and liaising with related individuals and practices
Routinely interacting with practice leaders, clients, officials, contractors, and others
Integrating concepts of effective teamwork and leadership
