About The Position

GAI Consultants is seeking an Assistant Engineering Manager to join our team in either the Glen Allen, VA or Pittsburgh, PA office. This role involves leading business development, managing projects in the Power Generation industry, and overseeing civil engineering tasks. The ideal candidate will possess a thorough understanding of current engineering principles and practices, apply expertise to resolve complex issues, and stay updated on new industry methods. Responsibilities include leading projects of moderate to significant complexity, analyzing intricate problems across various engineering specialties, and navigating ethical dilemmas. The position requires approximately 10% travel for public hearings and community meetings.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10+ years of experience.
  • B.S. or M.S. in Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) License, with reciprocity in multiple states.

Responsibilities

  • Lead business development initiatives.
  • Manage projects within the Power Generation industry.
  • Lead civil engineering tasks.
  • Apply thorough knowledge of current principles and practices of engineering.
  • Apply progressively acquired expertise to resolve crucial issues and/or unique conditions.
  • Keep informed of new methods and developments affecting their practice and recommend new practices or changes in emphasis of projects.
  • Lead projects of moderate complexity and scope or lead a major project.
  • Analyze complex problems across specialty areas appropriate to the practice of engineering.
  • Analyze ethical dilemmas to determine appropriate courses of action.
  • Serve as the technical advisor for the practice in the application of advanced concepts and methods in an assigned area.
  • Develop new techniques and/or improved processes, materials, or products.
  • Value and analyze sustainable performance of complex engineering projects from a systems perspective.
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate the preparation of documents or activities for multiple major projects or be responsible for an entire project of a practice.
  • Analyze project management plans for complex engineering projects.
  • Understand project delivery uncertainties and use risk management principles to address them.
  • Review operational procedures to ensure compliance with applicable policies and performance measures.
  • Serve as the Project Manager for certain projects with prior approval from GAI's President up to $50,000 per year.
  • Supervise a staff of engineers and technicians.
  • Provide continued mentored experience to senior staff.
  • Integrate professional attitudes relevant to the practice of engineering and foster creativity, curiosity, flexibility, and dependability in staff.
  • Apply principles of formal strategic and persuasive communications.
  • Represent their area of specialty within the practice and liaise with related individuals and practices.
  • Routinely interact with practice leaders, clients, officials, contractors, and others.
  • Integrate concepts of effective teamwork and leadership.
