About The Position

The Mount Airy News is seeking an Assistant Editor to join their team. This role involves working closely with the Regional Editor to produce local journalism for The Mount Airy News and support coverage across other regional publications. The position is focused on informing, engaging, and connecting the community through local news.

Requirements

• Passion for community journalism and storytelling
• Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills
• Strong news judgment and attention to detail
• Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines in a fast-paced newsroom
• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field preferred
• Newspaper reporting or professional newsroom experience is preferred, but talented recent graduates with strong clips are encouraged to apply

Nice To Haves

• Experience with photography and digital publishing is a plus

Responsibilities

• Report on local government, education, business, community events, and breaking news
• Write accurate, engaging news stories, feature articles, and special projects
• Photograph news and community events
• Edit stories for accuracy, clarity, grammar, and AP style
• Publish and promote content on our website and social media platforms
• Collaborate with the Regional Editor to plan daily and weekly news coverage
• Assist with editorial coverage for other Adams MultiMedia publications as needed
