About The Position

Under general direction, plans, coordinates and manages assigned program, area, or unit functions within the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office and performs related work as required. This is an Open Competitive/Countywide Promotional recruitment being conducted to fill a current full-time vacancy in the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office. The list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.

Requirements

  • Two years of full-time supervisory experience in a law enforcement environment.
  • Experience with project management, records management or Public Safety Answering Point.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, business administration, public administration, or a closely related field; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Background checks will be conducted through the State of Nevada and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
  • Must pass a background investigation which includes: Submit a set of fingerprints, Complete and submit a personal history statement, Pass a Computerized Voice Stress Analysis (CVSA) examination.
  • Must reside in the state of Nevada or neighboring California communities such as Truckee, South Lake Tahoe or Susanville as of their first day of work.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, coordinates and manages assigned program, area, or unit functions within the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office.
  • Delegate and coach staff members.
  • Collaborate across internal and external agencies.
  • Manage budgets, strategic planning, grants, and Request For Proposal (RFP) processes.
  • Build positive relationships.
  • Promote and foster a work environment that is collaborative, positive, and accepting of diversity.

Benefits

  • Eligible employees may receive an annual merit increase of 5% until they reach the maximum salary for the classification.
  • Upon promotion, current Washoe County employees are placed at the minimum rate of the salary range for the higher classification of the new position OR a promotional calculation, whichever is greater.
