About The Position

St. Catherine’s School seeks a Varsity Dive Assistant Coach this winter to work with our program that includes athletes from both St Catherine’s and St. Christopher’s in grades 7 - 12. This is a growing program that utilizes our on-campus aquatic facility for practices and competitions. The majority of practices are from 5:00 - 6:45 pm on weekdays. The season runs from mid-November through mid-February.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous competitive diving experience and/or coaching experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of diving techniques, rules, scoring, training methods, and safety practices.
  • Ability to effectively teach and demonstrate diving fundamentals and provide constructive feedback to student-athletes at varying skill levels.
  • Experience working with and supporting school-age students preferred.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership skills.
  • Ability to become CPR and First Aid Certified.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Dive Coach in planning and conducting practices, training sessions, and competitions.
  • Teach and reinforce proper diving techniques, fundamentals, body positioning, approaches, takeoffs, dives, and entries appropriate to each athlete’s skill level.
  • Provide individualized instruction, feedback, and encouragement to help student-athletes develop their skills and confidence.
  • Support the development of student-athletes’ physical conditioning, mental preparation, focus, and overall athletic development.
  • Supervise student-athletes during practices, meets, team activities, and travel in accordance with School policies and safety expectations.
  • Maintain a safe and positive training environment and consistently reinforce appropriate diving safety practices and procedures.
  • Assist with meet preparation, including warm-ups, event organization, athlete readiness, and communication with meet officials and opposing teams as appropriate.
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate team environment that reflects the School’s mission and values.
  • Prepare and manage practice plans, game strategies, lineups, and other team-related activities.
  • Set a tone of professionalism among coaches, athletes, and parents.
  • Assist with proper use of diving equipment and facilities; report safety concerns promptly.
  • Attend scheduled practices, competitions, team meetings, and other required athletic activities.
  • Follow all School, league, and governing-body policies and procedures, including those related to student safety, conduct, and eligibility.
  • Maintain required certifications and complete all School-required training.
