About The Position

The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for an Assistant Director of Utilities Services in the Facilities Services Department. The Assistant Director of Utilities Services is responsible for managing daily operations of mechanical (HVACR), building automation, electrical, and plumbing systems as well as overseeing maintenance, repairs, and deferred maintenance projects while ensuring the effective use of resources and adherence to budgetary guidelines. In addition, the role provides technical leadership and staff supervision, addresses complex operational challenges, and develops strategic solutions. The Assistant Director of Utilities Services reports to the Senior Director of Facilities Maintenance Services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, or related field from a regionally accredited institution and five (5) years of related professional work experience; OR Master’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, or related field from a regionally accredited institution and three (3) years of related professional work experience.
  • Progressively responsible managerial experience in facilities maintenance, operations, or related field to include supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction, technical assistance, assign work, and supervise staff
  • Oversee mechanical (HVACR), building automation, electrical, and plumbing system preventative maintenance and repairs
  • Develop and oversee budgets
  • Identify and plan deferred maintenance projects
  • Complete ongoing analysis of complex maintenance project status
  • Create, monitor, and maintain project performance metrics
  • Establish a reporting process that provides for detailed project-level reporting to be reviewed with the Senior Director and management team
  • Establish procedures to monitor quality, customer satisfaction, and efficiency
  • Develop maintenance execution processes to improve performance
  • Assist with campus energy management
  • Plan, manage, and implement special projects as assigned
  • Provide support and assume responsibility in the event of an absence or vacancy on management team
  • Participate in hiring decisions
  • Provide engineering knowledge and judgement in conjunction with department Mechanical and Electrical System Engineers
  • Triage problems and expedite resolution of interruptions to system operations
  • Drive a focus on goal achievement throughout business decision-making
  • Meet regularly with the management team to review key project status and ensure any risks are identified and mitigated
  • Provide input on strategic plans as a member of the management team
  • Contribute to the goal development process
  • Other duties as assigned
