About The Position

The Assistant Director is responsible for coordinating all student-facing functions of the university’s global, exchange, and study abroad programs, as well as acting as the primary advising contact for students participating in these programs. Partnering with faculty, staff, and administrators, the Assistant Director will oversee communications, policies, and programming university-wide for international educational experiences. This is a full-time position and supervises part-time student assistant(s).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience related to the position.
  • Three (3) years of progressive experience in relevant areas.
  • A demonstrated student-centered approach and an understanding of student development, higher education, and the education abroad field.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

  • Experience living/working outside the U.S.
  • Prior experience managing Terra Dotta, or similar software.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee study abroad and exchange advising and support services for all students across the university.
  • Manage all aspects of the study abroad application process, maintaining a regular advising schedule for students.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive pre-departure and re-entry programming series for all study abroad participants.
  • Serve as the university representative and primary advisor for prestigious international scholarships and fellowships (e.g., Gilman, Fulbright, Boren), including direct support for Fulbright recipients.
  • Serve as primary liaison with university offices (Admissions, ISSS, Student Financial Services, Registrar, Housing, Dean of Students) and external partners regarding mobility students.
  • Manage exchange student nominations and intake processes while serving as the primary university point of contact for global partner institutions.
  • Work closely with third-party program providers to ensure optimal, high-quality student experiences.
  • Provide training to relevant campus colleagues on study abroad programs, policies, and office functions.
  • Oversee and update the Terra Dotta (Go Abroad) application management system.
  • Manage and track information, logistics, and safety protocols for all international student travel (including non-study abroad research, fieldwork, and faculty-led excursions).
  • Serve as the primary institutional point of contact for international emergency response and crisis management.
  • Assist the Curriculum, Learning, and Academic Affairs team in assessing international education opportunities through accurate record-keeping and data tracking.
  • Develop, arrange, and lead in-person and virtual information events and outreach initiatives throughout the year for students, staff, and faculty.
  • Coordinate major campus event programming, including study abroad orientations and admitted student Welcome Days.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
