About The Position

The Assistant Director for Education Abroad (EA) is an integral member of the Office of International Programs (IP) and the EA team who facilitates education opportunities for WSU students at home and abroad. The Assistant Director of Education Abroad performs essential functions, which may include but are not limited to: Developing, maintaining, and improving the daily advising operations of EA at WSU to increase participation of students across the WSU system within each college and campus. Coordinating the development of faculty-led programs with WSU faculty, colleges, departments, and external vendors including maintaining policies and procedures. Advising students on EA opportunities within their academic requirements. Collaborating with WSU Advising community to increase opportunities available for students to study abroad within their academic plan. Assisting with the management and support for Terra Dotta. Supervising paid student staff and overseeing the student volunteer program. Serve as support for Risk Management & Crisis Situations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of professional work experience in student services or related education/experience.
  • Experience leading or directing the work of others.
  • Experience in higher education administration, teaching, or student services.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills or experience.
  • Public Speaking experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency/skills using Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated knowledge with web-based search tools and applications.
  • Proficiency with Terra Dotta software or similar platforms.
  • Willingness and ability to work outside of regular business hours of operation, including during evenings and on weekends as necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of the field of international education, education abroad trends, and higher education advising best practices.
  • Experience with faculty-led program development, including but not limited to budgets, risk management, implementation, and assessment.
  • At least one year of experience supervising professional or student staff.
  • Strong strategic thinking skills with the ability to independently develop and execute long-term plans.
  • Demonstrated experience that includes international work or travel or education abroad.
