About The Position

The Assistant Director, Student Employment manages the educational initiatives for student employment on campus, ensuring students and managers understand DePaul's career-readiness framework within a student employment context. This position will develop new initiatives and educational resources for both students and managers to promote career readiness as outlined by DePaul's strategic plan and the Career Center’s strategic priorities. The Assistant Director conducts ongoing analysis of university-wide training needs; identifies, develops and designs appropriate high-impact interventions to include online learning modules, blended learning, instructor-led training, and manager resources; ensures high quality training design and facilitation across the university. The Assistant Director will work collaboratively with both the Associate Director of Student Employment, and the Assistant Director of Student Employment. This role will also be cross-trained to be able to support essential functions of Student Employment such as hiring paperwork, ICP approvals, termination requests, job approvals, and maintaining the Campus Job Board.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 3-5 years experience in career development, higher education, human resources, training and development, or instructional design.
  • Strong presentation/facilitation skills and workshop/training creation and execution.
  • Strong sense of initiative; good judgment on when to work independently and involve team as needed.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to prioritize competing tasks within dynamic environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's preferred.
  • Supervisory and training experience and peer mentor program management.
  • Familiarity with software/platforms: Canva, Qualtrics, student information systems (e.g. PeopleSoft), learning management systems (e.g. D2L, Canvas), curriculum authoring tools (e.g. Adobe Captivate, Articulate), and Career Management Systems (e.g. Handshake).
  • Knowledge and application of adult learning models.
  • Ability to incorporate experiential learning activities into training & facilitation to meet the needs and culture of audience.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee management of the student employment learning and development program.
  • Coordinate and facilitate various educational initiatives for student employees and managers in order to highlight and amplify the high impact nature of on-campus employment.
  • Provide training and/or asynchronous modules that help prepare students to maximize their student employment experience as well as articulate the skills they have gained.
  • Deliver supervisor/manager training on best practices for recruiting, hiring, training, and developing student employees.
  • Facilitates learning and development initiatives in an inclusive manner that appeals to diverse audiences.
  • Conduct needs assessments to identify learning needs and skill development opportunities.
  • Maintain an up-to-date resource library for student employees and managers, emphasizing current trends and best practices.
  • Periodically assess gaps and add new resources regarding professional development and career readiness.
  • Conduct program evaluation and assessment to measure impact and effectiveness, identify process improvements and implement solutions and new initiatives in response to evolving needs and circumstances.
  • Cultivate relationships with campus partners and managers to contribute key expertise and diverse perspectives to training for student employees.
  • Consult with university leaders, managers and employers to design, develop, revise and maintain on-line learning, blended courses, instructor led learning, and other learning resources aligned with workplace skill development.
  • Build collaborative relationships with stakeholders to become a trusted resource for ongoing learning and development initiatives.
  • Assist in implementation and maintenance of performance appraisal process, goal setting, and expectation management.
  • Oversee workflow process for student employment learning management system: enrollment, completion & evaluation.
  • Create course modules, resources, and training materials for student employees and managers.
  • Map career curriculum across university.
  • Partners with OSE team and HR in management of LMS including course and system maintenance.
  • Assist with management of HR processes (hiring paperwork, ICPs, terminations, job approvals, job platform).
  • Supervises (1) graduate student project coordinator, (1) undergraduate office assistant, with possible expansion of student employment team as program scales.
