About The Position

We are seeking an Assistant Director, SLATE Specialist for a role in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. This position will be responsible for recruiting and conducting application review from a specified regional territory for first-year and transfer admission to the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences and the Whiting School of Engineering. In this role, the Assistant Director serves as a public-facing ambassador for the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Johns Hopkins University. The position will involve in-person and virtual recruitment and requires about four weeks of off-campus travel a year. Some evening/weekend work is required. In addition to the core responsibilities of an Assistant Director, this person will serve as a member of the SLATE team. As part of this team, they will contribute to establishing best practices within our CRM, while supporting production of analysis and tools for various projects across the office. They will also be responsible for supporting roles in larger projects that work towards office priorities and goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • One year of related experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with prospective students, parents, secondary school counselors, faculty and other university partners as well as the ability to represent Johns Hopkins University to the public.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrates the utmost level of professionalism with both internal and external constituents.
  • Knowledge of standard office software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to travel extensively and work nights and weekends as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Three years of related experience.
  • Experience as a college or university admissions officer preferred, which would include recruitment and application review.
  • Proficiency in Excel, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting recruitment and application review for an assigned region (domestic and/or international territory).
  • Building relationships and hosting presentations in the market.
  • Visiting high schools and community organizations.
  • Developing knowledge and familiarity with the secondary school landscape in the region.
  • Leveraging basic data analysis to manage decisions in a designated region(s) or area of study.
  • Conducting information sessions, supporting tours, and the visitor center as needed, and responding to routine requests from prospective applicants and families, as well as counselors.
  • Representing and being knowledgeable about the academics, student experience, and financial aid programs at Hopkins.
  • Supporting programming and events staffing on and off campus as assigned.
  • Managing internal and external relationships: Faculty, counselors, prospective students and families, current students, university administrators, high school counselors, and alumni.
  • Supporting the development and creation of analysis and tools in our CRM system.
  • Providing data to teams to help inform their decision-making processes.
  • Collaborating and thinking creatively about solutions to problems.
  • Investigating and making recommendations for the usage of AI in our processes.
