About The Position

The Department of Recreational Services is experiencing exciting growth and is seeking an Assistant Director, Competitive Sports to join their team. This role is part of the Student Success initiative within the Department of Recreational Services at Georgia State University. This position is based at the Downtown Atlanta campus and will involve some nights and weekends. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and four years of related experience, or a combination of education and related experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Recreation, Sports Administration or related field.
  • 3 years of experience specific with either Intramural or Sport Club programming in a University Recreation program.
  • High School or equivalent officiating experience in a variety of sports.

Responsibilities

  • Developing, promoting and implementing a comprehensive sports program of team, individual, and club sports organizations.
  • Assisting with assessment efforts focusing on identifying participation levels, program participant interest, and learning and development objectives.
  • Developing recommendations and implementing new programs and activities.
  • Developing risk management procedures to include student travel, participant safety and emergency action plans, and acting as primary liaison with the department Safety and Risk Management.
  • Supervising, mentoring, evaluating and effectively directly leading 1 full-time Coordinator, Competitive Sports and indirectly leading 7 Graduate Assistants, 55+ student assistants and 30+ volunteers.
  • Supporting with the recruitment, hiring, training, and scheduling of student staff in the positions of program assistants, sports assistants and officials.
  • Maintaining effective working relationships with the Associate Director and Marketing Specialist to develop marketing strategies and promotional materials.
  • Collaborating with campus partners that include but not limited to GSU Police, Greek Life, and Athletics to develop collaborative programs and services that support student success.
  • Working with the Business Services staff in developing and managing the Competitive Sports program budget(s) to include payroll, equipment and supplies.
  • Initiating all club travel authorization and reimbursement forms.
  • Managing and maintaining the current fleet of vehicles and trailers.
  • Ensuring drivers are authorized and trained accordingly.
  • Administering the van reservation process for department programs.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
