About The Position

As part of a diverse community of faculty and staff representing many faith systems and worldviews, Marian University-Plymouth is seeking qualified applicants for an Assistant Director of Student Success, who will promote our Catholic Franciscan mission and identity by leading and assessing initiatives that advance student transition, engagement, academic achievement, persistence, and retention. The position oversees New Student Orientation, Academic Commons support services, academic coaching and early intervention, special-population initiatives, and basic-needs resources. The Assistant Director collaborates with students, families, faculty, staff, and university and community partners to provide coordinated, student-centered support aligned with Marian University's Catholic Franciscan mission.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in higher education, education, student affairs, counseling, social work, organizational leadership, or a related field.
  • Relevant experience in student success, academic support, orientation, engagement, or education.
  • Program or event coordination experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and develop student employees or peer leaders.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of Marian University

Responsibilities

  • Lead planning, logistics, communications, registration support, assessment, and continuous improvement for first-year and transfer orientation.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, schedule, and evaluate Orientation Leaders; coordinate advisors, presenters, facilities, technology, dining, and campus partners; and support Knight Quest and related enrollment-transition events.
  • Oversee peer tutoring, workshops, classroom presentations, testing-center coordination, and other academic-success services.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, schedule, and evaluate student employees; promote and assess services; and maintain a welcoming environment that encourages learning, connection, and help-seeking.
  • Coach students experiencing academic challenges by helping them identify goals, barriers, strategies, action steps, and resources.
  • Coordinate timely outreach and referrals, document follow-up appropriately, protect confidentiality, and recommend interventions that strengthen persistence and degree progress.
  • Develop and assess transition, belonging, and retention initiatives, including a Peer Mentor Program for first-generation students and 21st Century Scholars.
  • Coordinate Scholar outreach, programming, and scholarship-requirement support with campus and university partners.
  • Serves as campus liaison for the PLC.
  • Coordinate initiatives that reduce barriers to learning and wellbeing.
  • Manage the campus food and supply pantry, including inventory, access, records, donor relationships, and collection drives; connect students with campus and community resources; and recommend partnerships and improvements based on identified needs.
  • Collect, analyze, and report program data and student feedback to guide planning, resource allocation, and continuous improvement.
  • Represent Student Success and Engagement on committees and communicate regularly with the Dean of Students regarding outcomes, needs, staffing, budgets, and operational priorities.
