About The Position

Assists in the operation of the total special education program to include Childfind, Early Childhood Special Education, Regional Program, and related services, with emphasis on the strategic organization, implementation of the strategic plan, development and implementation of high-quality specialized services to help schools meet the unique needs of identified students and their families.

Requirements

  • Postgraduate Professional Certificate with special education endorsement.
  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five years successful experience as a teacher, supervisor, or administrator.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively contribute to a team.
  • Leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with teachers, administrators, special instructional services staff, parents, and the public.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Works and plans with the Director of Special Instructional Services, Administrators, and special education staff to ensure all components of the special education departments are focused on differentiating for special education student’s needs while maintaining the focus of student achievement.
  • Assist with personnel functions (e.g. interviewing, evaluating, recruiting, and placement) for the purpose of maintaining adequate staffing, enhancing productivity of personnel and achieving objectives within budget.
  • Demonstrate expertise and will stay current in areas of specialized instruction and special education law.
  • Attends building level meetings, education planning meetings, student support team meetings, etc. for the purpose of identifying issues, developing recommendations, supporting other staff, and serving as a District representative.
  • Compiles data from a variety of sources for the purpose of writing reports, coordinating compliance efforts and analyzing issues, ensuring compliance with district and state policies and procedures, and/or monitoring program components.
  • Assists teachers and administrators with the delivery of an effective instructional program.
  • Collaborate with instructional services in the development and implementation of special education services, staff training, and instructional programs.
  • Coordinates and oversees IEP Process and completion to include monitoring, compliance and training.
  • Oversee special education assessment programs.
  • Coordinates extended school year services.
  • Responds to community requests for information and assistance.
  • Recommends instructional materials and evaluates professional learning focused on specially designed instruction, MTSS, and IEP development for curriculum implementation.
  • Collaborate with human resources and the instructional department with special education procedures, staffing, and issues on a regular basis.
  • Serves as a member of the Division Improvement Team.
  • Assesses office functions in an effort to improve services.
  • Assists in preparation and management of the special education budget.
  • Prepares specific reports, grants and proposals to improve and support the special education programs.
  • Other duties may be assigned through the immediate supervisor.
