About The Position

The Assistant Director of Social Programs will provide oversight and management of various programs and services including CORE, Vocational, Hudson House, Travel Activity, WOGI (Welcome Orange Geriatric Initiative), Rehabilitative Social Club, Compeer, Compeer Homeless, Friends, and Family Support. This role involves direct supervision of key staff and promoting an environment consistent with MHA’s Cultural Equity Policy and WELCOME Orange. The scope of direct oversight may be periodically re-evaluated based on staffing and executive discretion.

Requirements

  • Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) OR Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) with at least 2 years of program management and supervisory experience.
  • OR Master's Degree in social work, health and human services, or related field with at least 2 years of program management and supervisory experience.
  • OR Bachelor’s Degree in social work, health and human services, or related field with 4 years of program management and supervisory experience.
  • OR High School Diploma with 10 years of program management and supervisory experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, including Pivot Tables, for effective data management and reporting.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with public speaking abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Demonstrated sound judgment, especially in crisis situations, while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Experience providing services to individuals with a serious mental illness and/or substance use disorder.
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License and clear record under mandated background checks.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision to Hudson House Supervisor, Social Programs Supervisor, as well as CORE and VOC staff.
  • Lead, motivate and supervise a dedicated team, ensuring their development and adherence to organizational policies.
  • Assist in the development and review of departmental policies, procedures and manuals.
  • Conduct recruitment, hiring, training, and annual evaluations.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements from entities such as Medicaid and NYS Office of Mental Health.
  • Oversee timely billing submissions and internal audits, fostering accountability.
  • Uphold HIPAA regulations and safeguard confidentiality.
  • Monitor and optimize program performance, referring participants for additional services as needed.
  • Provide culturally competent services and maintain agency policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate with community agencies and service providers, participating in meetings as an MHA representative.
  • Review and approve relevant program staff time records, paid time off requests, project reports, correspondence, and financial expenditures.
  • Engage in relevant program staff’s performance management setting and measuring goals, objectives and milestones.
  • Conduct staff training and development opportunities.
