About The Position

The Assistant Program Director of Reentry and Educational Services is responsible for assisting in the implementation of Reentry and Educational Services at the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex, the Transitional Work Program and inmate workers assigned to the South Lafourche Substation. This role involves overseeing various programs, managing staff, and ensuring compliance with state and agency guidelines.

Requirements

  • Jobholders must be at least eighteen (18) years of age and legally able to work in the United States.
  • Associates degree or equivalent from a university or college; or, three (3) to five (5) years related experience and/or training; or, equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • P.O.S.T. Certification Required.
  • Firearm Certification Required Annually.
  • Reentry and Programming Certifications in all current course curriculums.
  • Candidate must possess a valid Louisiana Drivers License.
  • Must possess knowledge of technical and professional methods, practices, and procedures in the delivery of services in the correctional arena.
  • Must possess skills in the operation of personal computers, copy and fax machines.
  • Knowledge of computer word processing software, business English, spelling, punctuation, and methods and techniques in record keeping and filing systems required.
  • Prior supervisory experience in managing a support staff.
  • Must have strong organizational and data entry skills, ability to prioritize tasks, strong understanding of DPS&C and LPSO policies and procedures, attention to detail along with strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Monthly reports to the Department of Public Safety and Corrections of total state inmates currently enrolled in programming; have to send all certificates of completion; submit information for application of time calculations (good time).
  • Complete and submit monthly programming status report to facility Wardens/Criminal Department Head.
  • Oversee all volunteer services; ensuring completion of all volunteer related paperwork and orientation training.
  • Oversee all faith-based programming, church scheduling, special requests; ensuring equality for all inmates as to their religious needs.
  • Coordinate all community outreach; AA, AL-Anon, and all other volunteer services.
  • Ensure the application process and screening of potential volunteers meets state, Agency, accreditation and PREA guidelines.
  • Implement and monitor data collection/reporting systems; validate internal quality assurance mechanisms are in place, such as file review and assessments.
  • Assist with screening offenders for Regional Reentry and tracking participation throughout.
  • Implement programming developed by the Department of Public Safety and Corrections.
  • Oversee management of transition document envelopes.
  • Conduct performance evaluations; resolve grievances.
  • Review and approve employee timesheets and sick time and vacation requests.
  • Provide training and direction to staff to ensure duties and responsibilities are clearly defined and fully understood.
  • Responsible for supervising all programming and reentry staff.
  • Responsible for ensuring programming staff are up to date with all current Agency policies and procedures and all mandated agency training.
  • Performs the duties of a Lieutenant, as needed.
