About The Position

The Opportunity Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) seeks a dynamic, student-centered, and forward-thinking Assistant Director of Fitness and Wellness Programming to provide visionary leadership. The Assistant Director of Fitness and Wellness Programming leads fitness and wellness related programming and events. Incumbent will design, implement and evaluate programming and initiatives within the department and in collaboration with others. Area-specific program evaluation, continual process and policy review, as well as fitness center equipment and accessory inventory, and area-specific risk management also fall under the purview of the assistant director of fitness and wellness. Student employee fitness education, leadership development, and general supervision are key to the success of Fitness and Wellness programming.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in exercise science, kinesiology, biomechanics, or similar discipline
  • Valid nationally accredited personal training and group fitness certifications (NCCA-Approved). Must remain active throughout the term of employment.
  • CPR certification obtained within 90 days of hire
  • Two years experience managing fitness operations and fitness programming
  • Must have a valid and clear driver's license and be permitted to drive in the state of Florida.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the maintenance and inventory management of all fitness center exercise equipment, including providing recommendations for layout and equipment purchase options.
  • Oversee and manage the creation and implementation of fitness and wellness programs and events, including personal training, group fitness classes, and multi-week training programs.
  • Receive and submit fitness equipment repair requests, and coordinate with vendors to ensure prompt completion.
  • Responsible for the preparation, forecasting, and monitoring of income and expense budgets for group fitness, personal training, and fitness floor staff.
  • Lead in the creation and implementation of fitness and wellness events and programs, including campus and community-wide events such as strength competitions, fitness and wellness expos, and 5k races.
  • Oversee fitness equipment cleanliness and maintenance, and coordinate with vendors for preventative maintenance and repairs.
  • Schedule and host on-campus fitness certification opportunities for staff and the ERAU campus community.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for any private fitness class/event requests, and complete invoicing and billing.
  • Audit PT and GF staff performance and certifications to ensure compliance.
  • Collaborate with other departments and student organizations for major fitness and wellness-related campus and community events.
  • Analyze and evaluate programs for appropriate growth and improvement.
  • Conduct group fitness classes, training classes, and fitness orientations.
  • Provide leadership for fitness staff (group fitness instructors, personal trainers, and fitness floor staff).
  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and evaluate group fitness instructors, personal trainers, and fitness floor staff.
  • Recruit, hire, train, assign clients, and evaluate personal trainers to ensure program quality and client experience.
  • Manage, schedule, and conduct fitness staff certifications, scheduling, and risk management skills and trainings.
  • Develop and implement core learning objectives for all fitness staff to be addressed in regular staff trainings.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Fitness and Wellness to oversee departmental marketing needs, including management of social media accounts and marketing staff.
  • Work closely with the Director of Fitness and Wellness to complete fitness center equipment installations and selections.
  • Respond to participant questions and concerns, monitor inventory, maintain fitness equipment, and make recommendations for replacement.
  • Approve staff timecards and complete shift scheduling.
  • Serve as essential personnel to campus crisis, as designated by the Dean of Students.
