About The Position

South Port Square, a 40-acre campus in Port Charlotte, is seeking a hospitality-driven professional to join their dedicated team as an Assistant Director of Nursing. This role involves assisting with the management of day-to-day healthcare operations to ensure resident healthcare needs are met, with a focus on treating residents with respect and dignity. The Assistant Director of Nursing will supervise licensed nurses and other direct care staff, ensuring quality care as resident needs change.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • RN with a current license in Florida.
  • Two years’ experience in geriatric nursing with strong leadership skills required.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Ability to generate a warm, friendly, and caring manner on first impression.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, staff, and visitors.
  • Maintain the highest level of confidentiality.

Nice To Haves

  • Participation in professional organizations, dealing primarily in geriatrics preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Direct supervision of community-based license nursing staff (LPN/RN), Med Techs/CNAs, and Lead caregiving employees. May also supervise Resident Care staff.
  • Assign and direct work of subordinates; appraise performance; reward and discipline employees; address complaints and resolve problems.
  • Provide ongoing training, supervision, and monitoring of employees in medication administration, including auditing medication administration records.
  • Provide ongoing training and education to resident care employees through classroom in-services and situation-specific training.
  • Supervise the maintenance of resident charts and review documentation performed by caregiving staff.
  • Assess health, functional, and psycho-social status of residents, initiate individualized service plans, proactively manage care, and evaluate effectiveness to maximize resident's opportunity to remain in their environment.
  • Manage the health care of residents, disseminate information to families and employees, and ensure families are aware of resident's needs for scheduled appointments.
  • Participate in pre-admission screening of prospective new residents, ensuring required documentation is completed prior to or upon admission.
  • Perform on-site evaluations of residents admitted to alternate care environments for treatment and maintain contact with resident families with the intent of returning the resident to the Community.
  • Perform ongoing assessment/observation of resident’s physical and psycho-social needs and coordinate with other departments to assure quality, proactive care.
  • Evaluate residents, document changes in condition, and notify the executive director, physician, and resident’s legally responsible party/family of the resident’s condition and reactions.
  • Communicate with physicians regarding resident’s status and condition changes, ensure residents are prepared for physician appointments, prepare Physician Visit Form, and review/update resident charts.
  • Facilitate continuity of care for residents receiving home health care, hospice services, and other third-party healthcare-related services.
