About The Position

The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) supports the Director of Nursing (DON) in planning, directing, organizing, and evaluating nursing services to meet the total needs of the residents. This role ensures an efficient health facility operation in cooperation with other departments and in compliance with state and federal regulations. The ADON provides care in accordance with the "Philosophy for Person-Directed Care." The Infection Preventionist (IP) component is responsible for the facility infection prevention and control program (IPCP), designed to provide a safe, sanitary, and comfortable environment, and to help prevent the development and transmission of communicable diseases and infections. The ADON reports to the Director of Nursing (or Health Services Administrator) and partners with the Medical Director for Antimicrobial Stewardship, and other stakeholders to develop a system of care that promotes sound and scientific infection prevention principles and practices.

Requirements

  • Current RN license
  • Current or prior Skilled Nursing leadership experience
  • Minimum of one-year of professional management experience
  • Current CPR Certification
  • Excellent clinical observation and assessment skills
  • Proficient computer skills necessary to complete documentation, review electronic health records, and communicate with team members

Nice To Haves

  • Strong wound care knowledge
  • IP Certification strongly preferred
  • BS Degree is preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and related experience

Responsibilities

  • Supports the Director of Nursing (DON) in planning, directing, organizing, and evaluating nursing services.
  • Ensures an efficient health facility operation in cooperation with other departments and in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Provides care in accordance with "Philosophy for Person-Directed Care."
  • Responsible for the facility infection prevention and control program (IPCP).
  • Makes daily rounds to observe residents and ensure staffing levels meet residents' needs.
  • Ensures all appropriate and necessary nursing care is provided.
  • Interacts with residents, families/responsible parties, and staff; answers questions, gives directions, and provides support.
  • Directs admissions and discharges; coordinates with acute hospital, assisted living, and independent living staff.
  • Conducts staff meetings.
  • Performs administrative planning.
  • Supervises nursing and management staff including scheduling, hiring, training, and evaluating.
  • Acts on employee problems; recommends transfers, salary increases, and discipline.
  • Interviews potential resident applicants; gives tours and meets with prospective residents.
  • Oversight of the IPCP, which includes a system for preventing, identifying, reporting, investigating, and controlling infections and communicable diseases for all residents, staff, volunteers, visitors, and other individuals providing services under a contractual arrangement based upon the facility assessment and following accepted national standards.
