About The Position

The Homestead in Penn Yan is a skilled nursing and long-term care community dedicated to delivering high-quality, compassionate, resident-centered care. As part of a collaborative healthcare organization, The Homestead is committed to excellence in nursing practice, regulatory compliance, staff development, and continuous quality improvement. Under the administrative guidance of the Long-Term Care (LTC) Director of Nursing (DON), the Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) supports and enhances clinical and operational systems to achieve positive outcomes for residents, families, and staff. This role is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating strategies that promote nursing competency, clinical excellence, effective use of technology, and high levels of resident and family satisfaction. The ADON supports fiscal responsibility through budgeting awareness, cost control, and performance improvement initiatives, while maintaining a strong focus on quality resident care. The ADON maintains 24-hour responsibility and accountability for the facility and actively participates in and/or chairs committees related to nursing operations and organizational performance.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Registered Professional Nursing
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Current New York State Registered Nurse (RN) License
  • Four (4) years of leadership or managerial experience and two (2) years of nursing experience in a Long-Term Care setting
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) regulations, including experience with the survey process
  • Strong ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with medical staff, leadership, residents, families, and the community
  • Ability to perform effectively in high-pressure or challenging situations
  • Excellent organizational, leadership, and multitasking skills
  • Ability to manage confidential information with professionalism and discretion
  • Computer proficiency including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software

Nice To Haves

  • Masters of Science in Nursing
  • Previous experience in an Assistant Director of Nursing role
  • PRI and MDS knowledge and/or experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Performance Improvement Program to ensure care delivery meets regulatory standards and organizational expectations aligned with the mission, vision, and values
  • Participate in the LTC divisional Performance Improvement Committee
  • Provide oversight of PRI and MDS processes to support accurate reimbursement and financial sustainability
  • Represent the Nursing Department on the LTC Safety Committee and coordinate employee safety initiatives
  • Coordinate and oversee attendance and staffing compliance processes
  • Provide daily supervisory oversight of nursing staff and clinical operations
  • Assume Nurse Manager responsibilities in the absence of another Nurse Manager
  • Participate in the recruitment, interview, and selection process for Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) candidates
