About The Position

NHC Fort Oglethorpe is looking for an Assistant Director of Nursing to join our team! The ADON will assist the Director of Nursing through providing continuity in administrative and managerial functions (including care delivery activities and training) of the Nursing Department. In addition to providing excellent nursing care to our patients, the qualified Registered Nurse (RN) for this position should possess patient-focused skilled nursing experience in a leadership role, superior communication skills, dependability, flexibility and the ability to lead a successful team. The ideal candidate with have prior Long Term Care experience, prior management experience, and demonstrate longevity in work history.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining clinical competency as evidenced by application integrated nursing knowledge and skills, leadership and communication skills.
  • Utilizing the nursing process in assessment, planning and implementing care.
  • Exhibiting organizational ability related to work flow, prioritizing to meet patient care needs.
  • Practicing continuous quality improvement thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Coordinating and implementing Patient Care Plan conferences.
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of a rehabilitative nursing program to assist patients to reach maximum level of functioning.
  • Monitoring to see that treatments and medications are administered as ordered.
  • Participating in conferences with patients and families.
  • Monitoring to see that there is accurate and adequate documentation in the medical records.
  • Accurate, timely completion of Patient Assessment (MDS) forms.
  • Reviewing and taking action when indicated by Patient Assessment (MDS) reports.
  • Planning and encouraging participation in in-service and continuing education for all levels of nursing personnel (including CNA training program).
  • Being an active member of the center’s Quality Improvement Committee.
  • Coordinating Level of Care meeting on a weekly basis.
  • Reviewing and reporting findings of level of care meetings to attending physicians.
  • Serving as a member of the management team and developing effective working relationships with the director of nursing, administrator and the medical director.
  • Participating in the development of center goals.
  • Assisting in the development and implementing procedures to meet the goals of the center.
  • Developing positive partner relations policies and environment to achieve firm, fair, consistent supervision and a department team.
  • Administering policies and formulating procedures for the nursing department.
  • Supporting and administering a departmental budget based on the nursing department’s goals and projected revenues.
  • Participating in establishing a competitive wage, salary, and benefit plan for nursing service staff.
  • Supporting the operation of the nursing department in a cost-effective manner.
  • Involved in the recruitment, selection, training, evaluation and retention for all nursing staff.
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of center’s master staffing plan based on patient’s needs, nursing service goals and standards, department budget and state law.
  • Promoting consistent assignment scheduling to meet patient care needs.
  • Formulating, implementing and evaluating a department plan for orientation and partner development.
  • Promoting and delegating accountability for maintaining an effective performance appraisal system for nursing.
  • Promoting resolution of conflicts through delegation and accountability for positive supervision.
  • Promoting and delegating personnel policy compliance with supervisors.
  • Creating a work climate that promotes a positive quality of work and minimizes institution’s legal risk.
  • Establishing linkage with existing community resources.
  • Assessing supplies and equates needs for Nursing Department and seeing that units are adequately stocked and maintained.
  • Participating in development and maintenance of nursing services’ philosophy and objectives, standards of practice, policy and procedure manuals and job descriptions for each level of nursing personnel.
  • Assisting in the development of 3 year capital expenditure budget for Nursing Department.
  • Assisting in the development of at least biweekly (every two weeks) work schedules for Nursing Department – post and maintain copy as worked.
  • Acting upon recommendations from the DON, RN Supervisors and/or supervisory LPNs regarding hiring and firing of nursing personnel; assisting with recruiting as needed.
  • Delegating and monitoring orientation and initial training for nursing personnel.
  • Coordinating with other department heads on any patient care needs.
  • Participating in all department head meetings.
  • Cooperating with consultants and implementing their recommendations, if determined appropriate to the nursing department.
