About The Position

Reporting the Director of Communications for OtP, the Assistant Director is responsible for developing and overseeing strategic, proactive, and cohesive communications for the University Career Center, working closely with UCC leadership, as well as providing communications support for UO Online and OtP more generally. The Assistant Director conceives, develops, implements, evaluates, and refines communication and marketing strategies to achieve maximum impact with target audiences, providing content and creative direction, as well as managing projects independently. This will include working with the Director of Communications and the Division of Student Life to develop a comprehensive engagement strategy for enrolled undergraduate students. The Assistant Director designs visual communications content for print, digital, and other media to support Oregon Rising priorities and OtP programs, using the UO Brand and Style Guide, and provides solutions for OtP clients to follow those brand guidelines in print and digital materials they create. The Assistant Director will lead social media campaigns directed at current students, faculty and staff, and other audiences identified as a priority for the institution. The Assistant Director will work independently to create concepts, develop content, publish posts, and evaluate content performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communication, marketing, the arts, or a closely related field; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Three years of professional experience executing communications and marketing projects, which can include but is not limited to developing strategic communications plans; graphic design; social media management; and creating effective content
  • Professional experience in graphic design for digital or print applications, or a bachelor’s degree in graphic design or closely related field
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to develop and implement marketing and communications strategies that advance the university’s academic mission and institutional priorities in student success and career preparation
  • Ability to work across communication and marketing verticals including writing, photo and video production, design, social media, and client management
  • Demonstrated high-functioning organizational skills, including an ability to manage time and projects efficiently in an environment of shifting priorities, and experience using a project management system
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, including Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate in a cross-functional team and to help diverse clients meet goals with creative solutions
  • Commitment and ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • Understanding of content accessibility standards and strategies for different mediums

Nice To Haves

  • At least one year of experience in a strategic planning role
  • Experience working in marketing and communications in higher education and creating content for a college student audience
  • At least one year of professional or student experience shooting and editing photo and video content for social media platforms
  • Knowledge of Drupal, WordPress, or other web content management systems
  • Experience and comfort in using project management systems and workflows
  • Experience collaborating with event organizers, academic units, and central offices to support event planning, promotion, and execution
  • Experience working with executives
  • Strong passion for and knowledge of technology, emerging media, and digital communications
