About The Position

The Study Abroad Programs unit invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of Faculty Led Programs for Study Abroad. This role involves collaborating with faculty to create and lead programs abroad, ensuring they align with institutional goals and provide high quality educational experiences. The Assistant Director will advise faculty on student recruitment/outreach, application review, pre-departure orientation and on-site logistics. This position will collaborate with the Business Manager on fiscal management of faculty-led study abroad programs including development and oversight of program budgets and charging/refunding students. The position will supervise an administrative assistant, student assistants and graduate research assistants. The mission of Study Abroad Programs is to enable diverse students to participate in safe, inclusive, high-quality, international academic experiences that contribute to their success as students and global citizens. Equally important, SAP supports faculty as they create and lead programs and serve as a resource to the university community on international education. Study Abroad Programs is a unit of the International Initiatives. Other major units of International Initiatives include International Partnerships and Agreements, Special Programs for Global Engagement, Virtual Exchange, and Global Scholar Distinction program. GSU is nationally recognized as a leader in international education, having won the 2022 IIE Andrew Heiskell Award for Innovation in International Education and the 2023 Senator Paul Simon Award for Outstanding Campus Internationalization. Georgia State University, founded in 1913, has a mission of excellence in teaching, research and service. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 3 years of budgetary experience, or a combination of education and related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the development and implementation of faculty-led study abroad programs
  • Oversee proposal and review process for new and continuing faculty-led study abroad programs
  • Develop and implement a process for embedded faculty-led programs
  • Recommend program improvements to align with university mission, standards of quality, and operation requirements
  • Serve as a resource to GSU colleges and academic units on study abroad trends and best practices
  • Advise faculty on the Study Abroad Program proposal process to ensure compliance with the university requirements and consideration of key variables (timing, academics, activities, risk, etc).
  • Advise study abroad program directors on recruitment, application review, on-site logistics, etc.
  • Organize training sessions and workshops for faculty, staff, and campus stakeholders on faculty-led study abroad programs
  • Develop and manage training modules for faculty leading study abroad programs including pre-departure orientation materials
  • Serve as primary point of contact with vendors supporting faculty-led operations and maintain partner vetting protocols
  • Collaborate with Business Manager on fiscal management, including program budgets and student billing/refunds
  • Serve as superuser and oversee routine maintenance for study abroad software (TerraDotta and AlertTraveler)
  • Supervise the Study Abroad Programs Administrative Assistant and student staff, including hiring and daily oversight.
  • Advise students on faculty-led programs and manage related communications.
  • Support study abroad marketing and recruitment efforts
  • Participate in the study abroad emergency on-call rotation and support crisis response as needed
  • Support the Director of Study Abroad in emergency preparedness and risk management efforts
  • Support Office of International Initiatives and participate in committees as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
