About The Position

As a member of the Harvard T.H. Chan’s School of Public Health Office of Career and Professional Development (OCPD), the Assistant Director of Career Coaching and Education plays a critical role in leveraging relationships with employers and alumni to expand access to career opportunities, industries, and organizations that are looking to hire and connect with a diverse, international community of over 1,200 master’s and doctoral-level public health students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 7 years’ relevant work experience
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and counsel others, including extraordinary listening ability, abundant curiosity, and the ability to ask questions and offer feedback in ways that help people see possibilities for themselves
  • Experience with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software tools such as Symplicity and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Effectively organize and prioritize work
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills
  • Experience building relationships with diverse populations including students, faculty, staff, and employers
  • Flexibility, creativity, and collaboration

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree is preferred
  • Experience advising students, including advising graduate-level students is a plus
  • Experience working with communications tools such as WordPress, Canvas, Canva, Zoom, and LinkedIn

Responsibilities

  • Manages career development services for students and alumni including one-on-one coaching, group coaching, and advising, across all aspects of the career development process from self-reflection to evaluating job offers and negotiating salary; facilitates bi-weekly coaching meetings to share best practices with other coaches, and discuss and debrief coaching cases
  • Responsible for hiring and supervision of Career Coach/Advisor including on-boarding, weekly check-ins, annual goal-setting, and performance reviews.
  • Offers 10-15 hours of coaching appointments per week and holds 300+ coaching appointments per year; documents student interactions; follows-up with resources; and shares pertinent information within the team.
  • Oversees the scheduling and delivery of a comprehensive series of general and targeted programs, workshops, and networking events to increase the career readiness skills of Harvard Chan students offered in person or online. Leads the Alumni Job Search Series in collaboration with career offices across Harvard to provide ongoing support and networking opportunities to alumni.
  • Leads Student Advisory Committee to stay informed of student career interests and to deliver tailored programming collaboratively. Develops and maintains relationships with academic departments and student organizations.
  • Keeps current on key trends in recruiting and hiring, including new job and fellowship opportunities across industries of interest to Harvard Chan students; advises and informs staff accordingly
  • Plans and develops content for career resources e.g. print materials, website, etc. and updates as needed
  • Contributes to the overall strategic planning of the office
  • Works collaboratively with teammates within OCPD, Student Services, and across the School and University, including building productive partnerships with key faculty, staff, administrators, and students
  • Serves as a key part of the day-to-day operations of a fast-paced, service-oriented team
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned
