About The Position

The Assistant Director of Buildings and Grounds is responsible for leading the daily operations of the physical plant, daily maintenance, event management, cleanliness and safety for the entire campus including grounds, academic and administrative buildings, equipment, and vehicles. The Assistant Director is also responsible for other related services which support the School’s programs, faculty and staff. This position works directly for the Managing Director of Facilities.

Requirements

  • A degree in Facilities Management, or equivalent work experience.
  • A minimum of five years building and grounds management experience and/or the licensure in one or more relevant trades(plumbing, HVAC, pipefitting, electrical)
  • Standing/sitting for long periods of time.
  • Bending, lifting, pushing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, stooping.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to reach at and above shoulder height to access higher areas of equipment, etc.
  • Must be capable of adapting to frequent changes in position throughout the workday.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone.
  • Use of hands and fingers for manipulation, and using computer keyboard, educational tools, play equipment, and perform first aid and CPR.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.

Nice To Haves

  • OSHA10 Certification a plus
  • Experience operating computerized Building Management Systems (BMS) for HVAC monitoring and scheduling.
  • A proficient understanding of OSHA and other government agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participates in the planning, scheduling & supervision of the facilities staff and outside contractors including the 3rd party facilities and housekeeping contractors.
  • Actively performs skilled and semi-skilled hands-on maintenance tasks (e.g., light electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and HVAC troubleshooting) alongside the team.
  • Manage the long term vendor relationships including but not limited to custodial, grounds, waste management, and HVAC.
  • Direct supervision of the Facilities Maintenance and Custodial contractors to ensure work is being performed to satisfaction.
  • Planning, scheduling and supervision of maintenance and repair of campus buildings, equipment and related services.
  • Oversees planned maintenance of all vehicles and equipment owned or leased by the school.
  • Manage setup, execution and tear down of school events and outside rentals.
  • Coordinates outside contractors and actively participates in campus snow and ice removal operations, including early morning/after-hours response to winter weather events.
  • Assist the Managing Director of Facilities in the long-range planning of the school’s building and grounds infrastructure.
  • Assist the Managing Director of Facilities in communicating the progress of all maintenance, construction and related projects and issues.
  • Utilizes the maintenance software program, Incident IQ to monitor work requests, preventative and deferred maintenance of buildings, grounds and equipment.
  • Assess individual team member strengths and delegate daily tasks to maximize efficiency, foster professional growth, and ensure high-quality workmanship across the department.
  • Proven ability to mentor, motivate, and manage a diverse team, fostering a collaborative and accountable work culture.

Benefits

  • Salary: $80,000-$100,000 based on experience/education
