About The Position

Hopkins Athletics and Recreation is seeking an innovative and forward-thinking Assistant Director of Athletic Performance to join their best-in-class athletic department. This role supports the mission and integrity of Johns Hopkins University and the Athletics department by designing and implementing comprehensive, evidence-based strength and conditioning programs for assigned NCAA programs. The position involves contributing to the implementation and supervision of training sessions, adhering to departmental philosophy, facility and staff schedules, and equipment maintenance. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, team-based environment and excel at building relationships with staff, student-athletes, and coaches. Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree required.
  • National Strength and Conditioning Association or Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association certification required.
  • First Aid/CPR Certified.
  • Experience as a strength and conditioning coach at the university/NCAA or professional level is required.
  • Familiarity with NCAA governing rules required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with data-tracking technology, such as Tendo Power Analyzer, Catapult Sports, and/or force plate technology, is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and implements sport-specific strength and conditioning programs for assigned sports teams and assists with other teams as needed.
  • Leads Athletic Performance Coaches and oversees the program in the absence of the Director of Athletic Performance.
  • Maintains healthy working relationships with members of the Johns Hopkins Athletics Department staff and student-athletes.
  • Coordinates programming for practices and captain-led sessions, including warm-ups, cardiovascular training, agility, flexibility, and recovery.
  • Communicates and collaborates with Head Coaches and the Sports Performance and Wellness team on performance enhancement, injury prevention, recovery, and conditioning best practices.
  • Oversees the fueling station, including managing and ordering food.
  • Maintains student-athlete records and monitors training program progress using TeamBuildr software, Vald Performance systems, and Catapult GPS & SPT GPS systems.
  • Works with the campus dietitian on specific needs for student-athletes.
  • Ensures proper operation of the weight room with a focus on safety, education, inclusion, and holistic growth.
  • Assists the Director of Athletic Performance in maintaining accurate inventory and controlling supplies and equipment in the weight room.
  • Engages in continuing education through professional development training and/or pursuing a relevant degree, while maintaining relevant certifications.
