About The Position

The University of Rochester is seeking an Assistant Director of International Admissions to join their team. This role is responsible for researching, developing, executing, and overseeing annual admissions plans to recruit, qualify, assess, and approve students for admission to the University. The position involves counseling prospective students, conducting recruitment visits, giving presentations, and reviewing applications. The Assistant Director will also execute and oversee specific areas of focus, such as particular populations or recruitment strategies. A cover letter is required for this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • 3 years of admissions experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required
  • Work in a related field such as higher education, college admissions, or school counseling required
  • Microsoft Suite of Products or the equivalent and data analysis required
  • Valid driver’s license recognized by the State and ability to travel by air (perhaps internationally), rail, and/or water

Responsibilities

  • Manages the planning, execution, and evaluation of signature undergraduate internationally-focused admissions programming in collaboration with events management, marketing, communications, and campus partners.
  • Builds relationships across campus and with key partners to ensure substantive and meaningful programming that showcases the University of Rochester to prospective students, families, counselors, and community-based organizations.
  • Engages current students and student organizations to incorporate student voices and participation in admissions initiatives.
  • Analyzes enrollment and participation data to inform future programming and recruitment strategies focused on international admissions.
  • Serves as a liaison with academic partners to ensure consistent and accurate admissions messaging and maintains related web content.
  • Engages with faculty and staff partners across campus to support admissions-related events, activities, and initiatives that advance undergraduate enrollment goals.
  • Collaborates with Admissions teams to support coordinated initiatives that enhance constituent experiences and advance Office of Admissions recruitment goals.
  • Prepares program debriefs and reports to document outcomes, evaluate effectiveness, and inform future planning.
  • Leads international-facing digital admissions outreach, including oversight of international social media channels, content accuracy, and assessment of engagement metrics.
  • Leads admissions processes for specialized and dual-admission programs, including application workflows, committee review, finalist selection, and enrollment analysis.
  • Reviews and evaluates a high volume of undergraduate applications from assigned domestic and international regions as a first and second reader using holistic admissions practices.
  • Serves as a key member of admissions committees, providing professional judgment and making final admission decision recommendations when reader assessments differ.
  • Provides subject-matter expertise on secondary school curricula, grading practices, and yield outcomes to support equitable and consistent application review.
  • Reviews international applicant financial documentation and recommends merit scholarship consideration to senior leadership.
  • Prepares and delivers information sessions, webinars, workshops, and targeted programming for prospective students, families, and counselors.
  • Executes large-scale admissions events in planning, facilitation, coordination, and visitor support roles.
  • Collaborates with senior leadership and campus partners to inform selection criteria for admission-related programs and implements targeted yield communications and programming.
  • Conducts admissions interviews and completes formal interview write-ups.
  • Answers telephone and email inquiries from a variety of constituents across all phases of the admission cycle.
  • Provides timely, accurate, and supportive information to prospective students, families, and counselors.
  • Conducts market and territory research to inform annual recruitment planning and outreach strategies.
  • Plans, researches, conducts, and evaluates approximately 8-12 weeks of international recruitment travel annually for assigned territories and regions.
  • May assist with domestic recruitment travel.
  • Builds and sustains relationships with secondary school counselors, independent educational consultants, and partner organizations.
  • Prepares and presents preliminary travel budgets and end-of-season reports with analysis and recommendations.
  • Leads training efforts with a focus on international application review practices and serves as a resource for complex or unusual applicant cases.
  • Develops training and service standards for student employees to ensure accuracy, consistency, and professionalism in admissions communications.
  • Recruits, hires, schedules, supervises, and evaluates student employees supporting international admissions operations and communications.
  • Continues growth and development in the Admissions domain through attendance at conferences, workshops, etc.
