About The Position

The Assistant Director of IT serves as the college’s primary Enterprise Architect and lead technical contributor. This position provides strategic governance and hands-on leadership for the institution’s enterprise software ecosystem, cloud infrastructure, and digital properties. The Assistant Director directs IT development, oversees the full software development lifecycle (SDLC), and API integrations, systems security, ADA compliance, and enterprise software agreements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or closely related field AND two years of progressively responsible enterprise development experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provides strategic and technical leadership for the design, development, and integration of the College’s enterprise information systems, aligning solutions with institutional priorities and user needs.
  • Directs application security, access controls, and data-protection measures to minimize breach liability and institutional risk.
  • Designs, engineers, governs, and secures cloud-based and on-premises systems infrastructure, enterprise portals, web properties, Git version control, custom applications, and integrations.
  • Designs, develops, and maintains system integrations and APIs connecting enterprise platforms (e.g., SIS, CRM, LMS, and third-party systems).
  • Serves as lead developer and primary programmer for the Student Information System (SIS) and related enterprise applications.
  • Leads the software development lifecycle (SDLC) for applications, integrations, and automations, including design, development, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Establishes development priorities, project pipelines, and workflows; manages and delivers multiple concurrent IT projects.
  • Provides leadership, mentors and supervises staff; motivates and empowers staff to create environments that promote innovation; sets standards for delivering quality service and strategic programming in student and residence life.
  • Advances the mission of FVCC by serving on or convening committees and contributing in the community in college-related activities.
  • Oversees enterprise application environments, web infrastructure, and supporting tools (e.g., version control systems).
  • Ensures systems are reliable, accessible, and user-centered; supports compliance with ADA Title II and WCAG accessibility standards.
  • Manages vendor relationships and software agreements for enterprise systems, including coordination of renewals and services.
  • Develops and maintains standards, documentation, and procedures for systems, integrations, and data processes.
  • Serves as primary liaison between IT, campus departments, and external partners; translates business needs into technical solutions.
  • Provides training, guidance, and support to faculty and staff to promote effective use of systems and applications.
  • Participates in institutional planning, committees, and continuous improvement efforts; maintains current knowledge of industry trends and best practices.
  • Establishes long-range planning mechanisms; prepares periodic reports and represents the department; and maintains collaborative relationships with college departments.
  • Remains current in practices, trends, and research related to areas of assignment.
  • Attends related training, workshops, and professional development sessions.
  • Cross-trains to perform other departmental and team functions; backfills for staff as needed.
  • Actively participates in the development of a climate that promotes and supports innovation and efforts to continuously improve services to students, faculty, and the College.
  • Creates and maintains a collaborative and collegial environment with colleagues and maintains effective working relationships.
  • Maintains professional ethics and confidentiality of students in accordance with applicable laws and policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
