About The Position

University Housing at Georgia State University is undergoing a period of growth and is seeking an Assistant Director of Housing to join their team. The Assistant Director will play a key role in advancing the University's housing services to the next level of excellence.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in College Student Personnel, Counseling, or Higher Education Administration or equivalent.
  • Four years of related experience.
  • At least one year of experience in a supervisory capacity.

Responsibilities

  • Directs the operation for one residential area on campus (1000-2000 residents), including specific housing complexes.
  • Manages staffing, programming, and operational budgets of approximately $500,000.
  • Leads and serves on departmental committees and workgroups.
  • Participates in the senior staff 24-hour on-call rotation for the residential campus population.
  • Writes reports, assessments, and evaluations of programs, services, and activities in the residential area.
  • Serves on the University Housing director’s senior leadership team, assisting with departmental goals, policies, and practices.
  • Ensures staff update the University Housing website with information for the designated residential area.
  • Serves in the absence of the Associate Director of University Housing as needed.
  • Prepares and monitors budgets for residential and functional areas.
  • Participates in departmental/divisional meetings and trainings.
  • Manages emergency situations and incidents involving residential students and guests, including communicating with emergency contacts.
  • Serves as the first point of contact for professional staff on duty (especially after hours and weekends) for maintenance, crisis, and emergency situations.
  • Manages and refers customer service issues, answers questions, and clarifies policies and procedures.
  • Manages the student move-in and move-out processes for residence halls/apartments in their areas.
  • Designs, implements, and evaluates area-wide programs and activities in residential areas.
  • Supports the academic mission, co-curricular learning goals, and student engagement activities.
  • Fosters safe, supportive, and inclusive residential communities.
  • Collaborates with various university departments (e.g., Dean of Students, Counseling and Testing Center, Police) for program design and implementation.
  • Serves as a University Complainant in judicial board hearings involving residential students.
  • Assists staff and students with managing and resolving emergencies, customer service, and personnel issues.
  • Provides vision, direction, and training for full-time staff and student staff.
  • Supervises, trains, develops, and evaluates direct reports (coordinators, residence hall directors, graduate assistants, administrative specialists).
  • Designs and leads staff development and evaluation activities for the designated area team.
  • Organizes full-time staff recruitment and selection in residence life, including reviewing job descriptions and determining staff placement.
  • Interprets and enforces Community Living Guide, Student Conduct Code, Housing and Panther Meal Contract policies, and procedures.
  • Communicates regularly with full-time staff through meetings, one-on-ones, and email.
  • Supervises, trains, and evaluates the Coordinator for Student Staff Selection and Training.
  • Chairs the Professional Staff Training and Development Committee.
  • Serves as a resource for professional staff for training and development.
