About The Position

The Aquinas Center of Theology (ACT) at Candler School of Theology at Emory University, established in 1987, serves as a Catholic scholarly presence across Emory University and the Archdiocese of Atlanta. The Center's mission is to foster dialogue and mutual understanding amidst growing polarization by bridging ideas, perspectives, theologies, and cultural traditions. To expand its mission, ACT seeks a full-time, collaborative Assistant Director of Spanish Programming and Events. This role will support the Executive Director in broadening the Center's programs and initiatives for Spanish-speaking communities within the Archdiocese of Atlanta and at Emory. The Assistant Director will be responsible for planning, leading, and facilitating Aquinas Center events on and off campus, working with the team to organize, coordinate, and implement the Center's activities. An ideal candidate will be deeply engaged in Catholic life and possess a proven ability to plan and execute events aligned with an organizational mission.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a field related to the program.
  • Two years of related experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Fluency in Spanish with clear, strong written communication skills and compelling public speaking abilities.
  • Highly detail-oriented individual with excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills to manage all aspects of an event.
  • Practicing Catholic with knowledge of and engagement with Catholic intellectual traditions.
  • Two years of experience working at either the parish or diocesan level.
  • Two years of experience in detailed event planning at a university/college campus, a faith-based setting, or a nonprofit organization.
  • Two years of experience with business-related skills including budgeting, procurement, expense management, reporting, and monthly reconciliations.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and Canva.
  • Creative professional who thrives in a collaborative environment and enjoys producing meaningful events.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate the work of student assistants, staff, and/or volunteers during a program.
  • Master's in theology or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, promote, and implement Spanish-speaking programs and initiatives to further engage Spanish-speaking Catholic parishioners, at the direction of the Executive Director.
  • Organize, coordinate, and implement operational facets of programs and related activities, including establishing long-term operational objectives, researching factors impacting program success, and documenting program requirements.
  • Engage other organizations for programming partnership opportunities, including those within Emory University, the Archdiocese of Atlanta, and the greater Atlanta Community.
  • Promote and manage program registration to achieve program goals and objectives.
  • Conduct research and gather information to develop new programs.
  • Develop conversation guides for Aquinas Center events for use by faith formation leaders in Catholic parishes.
  • Develop promotional materials and communications, including social media, newsletters, or other written information related to programming.
  • Assist in developing and coordinating program-related meetings.
  • Prepare operational and statistical reports.
  • Represent the Aquinas Center in meetings, conferences, and networks with affiliated groups.
  • Supervise assigned project staff, interns, and volunteers.
  • Participate in the budget planning process.
  • Assist in identifying funding resources and developing fund-raising strategies and initiatives.
  • Perform related responsibilities as required.
