About The Position

The Aquinas Center of Theology (ACT) at Candler School of Theology at Emory University, established in 1987, aims to provide a Catholic scholarly presence, fostering dialogue and mutual understanding. The Center acts as a bridge for ideas, perspectives, theologies, and cultural traditions within the ecumenical context of Emory University. To further its mission, ACT is seeking a full-time, collaborative Assistant Director of Spanish Programming and Events. This role will support the Executive Director in expanding the Center's programs and initiatives for Spanish-speaking communities within the Archdiocese of Atlanta and at Emory University. The Assistant Director will also be responsible for planning, leading, and facilitating Aquinas Center events on and off campus, working with the team to organize, coordinate, and implement the Center's activities. An ideal candidate will be deeply engaged in Catholic life and possess a proven ability to plan and implement mission-aligned events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a field related to the program.
  • Two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's in theology or related field.
  • Fluency in Spanish with clear, strong written communication skills and compelling public speaking abilities.
  • Highly detail-oriented individual with excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills to manage all aspects of an event.
  • Practicing Catholic with knowledge of and engagement with Catholic intellectual traditions.
  • Two years of experience working at both the parish or diocesan level.
  • Two years of experience of detailed event planning at a university/college campus, a faith-based setting, or a nonprofit organization.
  • Two years of experience with business-related skills including budgeting, procurement, expense management, reporting, and monthly reconciliations.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and Canva.
  • Creative professional who thrives in a collaborative environment and enjoys producing meaningful events.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate the work of student assistants, staff, and/or volunteers during a program.

Responsibilities

  • Planning, leading, and facilitating Aquinas Center programming, both on campus and community focused.
  • Developing, promoting, and implementing Spanish-speaking programs and initiatives to further engage Spanish-speaking Catholic parishioners, under the direction of the Executive Director.
  • Organizing, coordinating, and implementing the Aquinas Center's activities with the Executive Director.
  • Developing programs and initiatives to further engage currently underrepresented racial and ethnic groups.
  • Organizing, coordinating, and implementing operational facets of programs and related activities, including establishing long-term operational objectives, researching factors impacting program success, and working with individuals or groups to research and document program requirements.
  • Engaging other organizations for programming partnership opportunities, including those within Emory University, the Archdiocese of Atlanta, and the greater Atlanta Community.
  • Promoting and managing program registration to accomplish program goals and objectives.
  • Conducting research and gathering information to develop new programs.
  • Developing conversation guides for designated Aquinas Center events for use by faith formation leaders in Catholic parishes.
  • Developing promotional materials and communications, including social media, newsletters, or other written information related to programming.
  • Assisting in developing and coordinating program-related meetings.
  • Preparing operational and statistical reports.
  • Representing the Aquinas Center in meetings, conferences, and networks with affiliated groups.
  • Supervising assigned project staff, interns, and volunteers.
  • Participating in the budget planning process.
  • Assisting in identifying funding resources and developing fund-raising strategies and initiatives.
  • Performing related responsibilities as required.
