About The Position

The Assistant Director for Basilica Operations serves at the heart of the University of Notre Dame's spiritual life, providing thoughtful leadership for the liturgical, pastoral, and operational ministry of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart. This role is ideal for someone who combines a deep understanding of Catholic liturgy and the celebration of the Mass with exceptional organizational skills, a collaborative spirit, and a genuine passion for serving others. As a key leader within Campus Ministry, the Assistant Director ensures that the Basilica remains a place of reverent worship, meaningful hospitality, and transformative faith experiences for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and visitors. This position oversees the planning and execution of daily, seasonal, sacramental, and University-wide liturgies, requiring both theological insight and careful attention to the many operational details that allow each celebration to unfold with excellence. Equally important, the Assistant Director cultivates a welcoming and pastoral presence within the Basilica community. By recruiting, training, scheduling, and forming liturgical ministers, supervising the University Sacristan, Sacristy Supply Coordinator, Coordinator of Tours and Hospitality, and Wedding Coordinators, and collaborating with Campus Ministry, Student Affairs, residence halls, and University partners, this leader builds strong relationships rooted in trust, respect, and service. Success in this role requires someone who is as comfortable coordinating complex logistics and managing day-to-day operations as they are mentoring volunteers, engaging with students and visitors, and fostering meaningful connections across campus. Through attentive leadership, strong interpersonal skills, and a deep appreciation for the richness of Catholic worship, the Assistant Director helps ensure the Basilica continues to be a welcoming home for prayer, celebration, and the Catholic mission that defines Notre Dame.
