About The Position

The Assistant Director, Fitness & Wellness plans, coordinates, and implements various fitness and wellness programs for students, faculty, staff, and community members in collaboration with the Campus Recreation fitness and wellness team and across Student Affairs departments. The Assistant Director is responsible for developing, implementing, supervising, and evaluating a comprehensive Group Fitness, Personal Training, and Wellness Program for Campus Recreation at Georgetown University. This expectation will be executed with innovative programming for students, diverse applicant pools for employment opportunities, and working closely with campus partners to ensure these values are part of a holistic approach to recruiting diverse student employees and highlighting an inclusive atmosphere. Specifically, the Assistant Director, Fitness & Wellness provides support as needed to the Campus Recreation Professional Staff, directly oversees the Group Fitness Program, Personal Training, and Health Coaching programs, as well as the student staff of Fitness Attendants, and plans campus-wide health and wellness events. He/she teaches 2-3 group fitness classes per week each semester and conducts one-on-one personal training sessions as needed. The Assistant Director, Fitness & Wellness directly oversees 30+ part-time student and non-student Group Fitness Instructors, 30+ part-time student Fitness Attendants, and 10+ Personal Trainers/Health Coaches. They assist with marketing and advertising of all fitness and wellness programs, approve weekly payroll for the Group Fitness Department, Personal Training, and Health Coaching programs, as well as Fitness Attendants.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in exercise science, kinesiology, human/sport science, physical education, or recreation management
  • 3-5 years of experience in a recreational, fitness, or wellness field
  • Certification from an accredited organization such as ACE, AFAA, ACSM, Mad Dogg Athletics and/or NASM in related program areas
  • Certification in CPR/First Aid within 60 days of hire
  • Knowledge and experience with safety and risk management regarding a recreational/fitness setting
  • Demonstrated knowledge and physical ability to lead fitness-based activities and training
  • Excellent skills in verbal and written communication, organization, management, leadership
  • Proven commitment to student and staff development and customer service
  • A demonstrated ability to take initiative, problem-solve, and meet deadlines
  • Ability to collaborate effectively as a member of a goal-oriented team
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with frequent interruptions
  • Motivation and energy for leading program operations to the next level
