The Assistant Director, First Generation Student Initiatives (STEM) is a one-year term position (renewable for up to three years pending external funding) in support of the College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) First Fellows Program. This role is uniquely structured: 50% of the effort is dedicated exclusively to supporting first-generation in the Regents STEM Scholars Program (RSSP), most of whom are in the First Fellows program, while the remaining 50% supports the general First Fellows cohort. The Assistant Director provides holistic academic support and dedicated academic advising for all RSSP students as well as a dedicated caseload of CAS First Fellows in their sophomore through senior years. The incumbent functions as an administrator for program operations, provides one-on-one advising, facilitates community belonging, and teaches a one-credit course each semester. This role serves as a specialized link and resource between academic STEM requirements, medical school prerequisites, and the unique experiences of first-generation students with the aim to enhance belonging and the support the development of a scientific identity for RSSP students.
