About The Position

Boston College is seeking an Assistant Director, Field Education to join their Field Placement Department. This full-time position reports to the Assistant Dean, Field Education and is responsible for student placement development, agency recruitment, managing and advising students in agency placements, and supervising assigned adjunct faculty. The role also involves administrative tasks to support the department's operations and assisting in the organization, development, and implementation of the Placement Management Process. The department serves approximately 650 MSW students and consists of the Assistant Dean, six Assistant Directors, and a Field Education Program Assistant.

Requirements

  • Master of Social Work degree required
  • At least three years of professional experience required
  • Strong organizational and communications skills required
  • Experience with issues related to placement of students in agencies required
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite required
  • Familiarity with databases (Apex preferred) required
  • Ability to follow-through on tasks independently required
  • Ability to function as part of a team required

Responsibilities

  • Recruit agencies for placements by identifying potential agencies, making telephone contact, completing site visits, evaluating agencies, and inputting new agencies into the Placement Data File.
  • Support and monitor existing agencies.
  • Collect and file advisor reports and placement meeting reports.
  • Participate in Placement Management Meetings.
  • Assist the field team in the placement of students, including participating in the Placement Forum, reviewing student applications, interviewing students, writing Placement Interview Summaries, participating in weekly Placement Meetings, communicating with agencies to set up interviews, following up on interviews, and submitting paperwork for placement assignments.
  • Provide course and field advising to approximately 15 students.
  • Contact students and agencies in September and collect Learning Contracts in October.
  • Meet with students monthly and as needed.
  • Visit agencies at least once each semester and additional times as needed.
  • Review student performance each semester and submit grades.
  • Attend monthly Faculty Advisor meetings.
  • Participate in managing student problems as needed.
  • Submit Student Professional Reports at the end of the Spring Semester.
  • Orient and train advisors.
  • Provide support and consultation to advisors on a needed basis.
  • Monitor the performance of Student Advisors.
  • Provide consultation to Student Advisors on placement problems.
  • Organize the Summer Block placements and field seminar.
  • Participate in Student Orientation and Summer Field Seminars.
  • Serve as the Student Advisor to 8 to 15 students for the Summer Block Placement Program.
  • Perform special projects as assigned by the Assistant Dean, Field Education.
  • Provide program coverage one day per week to respond to student and agency requests for help and information.
  • Some local domestic and international travel required.
