About The Position

Boston College is seeking an Assistant Director, Field Education to join their Field Education Department. This role reports to the Assistant Dean of Field Education and is responsible for developing student placements and recruiting agencies. The Assistant Director will manage and advise students in agency placements, supervise assigned adjunct faculty who serve as student advisors, and perform various administrative tasks to support the department's operations. The department serves approximately 650 MSW students and consists of the Assistant Dean, six Assistant Directors, and a Program Assistant. This position requires some domestic and international travel.

Requirements

  • Master of Social Work degree required
  • At least three years of professional experience required
  • Strong organizational and communications skills required
  • Experience with issues related to placement of students in agencies required
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite required
  • Familiarity with databases (Apex preferred) required
  • Ability to follow-through on tasks independently required
  • Ability to function as part of a team required

Responsibilities

  • Recruits agencies for placements, including identifying potential agencies, making telephone contact, completing site visits, evaluating agencies, and inputting new agencies into the Placement Data File.
  • Supports and monitors agencies.
  • Collects and files advisor reports and placement meeting reports.
  • Participates in Placement Management Meetings.
  • Assists the field team in the placement of students, including participating in the Placement Forum, reviewing student applications, interviewing students, writing Placement Interview Summaries, participating in weekly Placement Meetings, communicating with agencies to set up interviews, following up on interviews, and submitting paperwork for placement assignments.
  • Provides course and field advising to 15 students.
  • Contacts students and agencies in September and collects Learning Contracts in October.
  • Meets with students monthly and as needed.
  • Visits agencies at least once each semester and additional times as needed.
  • Reviews student performance each semester and submits grades.
  • Attends monthly Faculty Advisor meetings.
  • Participates in managing student problems as needed.
  • Submits Student Professional Reports at the end of the Spring Semester.
  • Orients and trains advisors, provides support and consultation, monitors performance, and consults on placement problems.
  • Organizes the Summer Block placements and field seminar, participates in Student Orientation and Summer Field Seminars, and serves as the Student Advisor to 8 to 15 students.
  • Performs special projects as assigned by the Assistant Dean, Field Education.
  • Provides program coverage one day/week to respond to student and agency requests for help and information.
