About The Position

The Assistant Director of Environmental Services supports the overall leadership, management, and operations of the Environmental Services (EVS) department. This role partners with the Director to ensure the department operates efficiently and in compliance with all regulatory requirements while delivering a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for patients, staff, and visitors. The Assistant Director also plays a key role in financial stewardship, team development, and fostering strong relationships across departments to align EVS operations with the hospital’s overall goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred
  • 3–5 years of Environmental Services, housekeeping, or related management experience in a healthcare or senior living environment
  • Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Professional (CHESP) certification strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of healthcare regulatory and accreditation standards (federal and state surveys)
  • Strong financial acumen, including experience with budget management and P&L oversight
  • Experience working in a contract-managed services environment preferred
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and customer service skills
  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills and the able to prioritize
  • Ability to function appropriately in fast paced environments
  • CRCST or other applicable sterile processing certification is preferred
  • Proficient computer skills and knowledge of MS Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and internet

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean, sanitary, safe, and aesthetically pleasing environment throughout the facility
  • Assist in planning, organizing, directing, and supervising all departmental activities
  • Ensure the department remains “survey-ready” at all times and complies with federal, state, and local regulations
  • Support budget management by monitoring expenses and maximizing value within approved financial guidelines
  • Conduct regular management and staff meetings; collaborate with other departments to coordinate services and activities
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with hospital leadership and departmental stakeholders
  • Promote a culture of service excellence and high customer satisfaction
  • Lead, coach, and develop team members to support professional growth and departmental success
  • Implement process improvements and program enhancements that increase operational efficiency and service quality
  • Encourage innovation and engagement among associates through recognition programs and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Maintain appropriate security and accountability for supplies, equipment, and departmental resources
  • Participate in professional organizations, committees, and ongoing education and training
  • Ensure compliance with all organizational policies, procedures, and safety standards
