About The Position

The Assistant Director of Disability Services provides leadership for disability services within the Center for Learning, Access, and Student Success (CLASS). Serving on the CLASS leadership team, the Assistant Director collaborates with the CLASS staff to advance the department's mission of providing opportunities for all students to achieve academic success. The Assistant Director provides operational leadership for disability services, including supervision of professional staff, review of disability documentation, coordination of accommodation services, consultation on complex student cases, and collaboration with campus partners to ensure equitable access for students with disabilities. The Assistant Director also provides direct student services, including academic skills coaching, contributes to departmental planning and assessment efforts, and serves as a resource to faculty and staff regarding disability-related issues.

Requirements

Graduate degree in Psychology, Counseling, Education, or equivalent discipline and a minimum of 5 years of relevant work with a college-aged population.
Proven ability to evaluate and interpret disability documentation and implement reasonable accommodations.
Knowledge of learning, physical, psychological, and medical disabilities and accommodations.
Ability to adhere to relevant professional code of ethics and state law.
Ability to supervise professional and graduate level staff.
Knowledge of disability laws and best practices (ADA, Section 504).
Knowledge of student learning and operational assessment processes and procedures.
Ability to present in classroom, workshop, and training settings.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Strong interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

PhD in Psychology, Counseling or Education.
5+ years working in higher education settings.
Licensed or license eligible by the NC Psychology Board, NC Board of Licensed Professional Counselors, or in School Psychology by the NC Department of Public Instruction.
Knowledge of assistive technology
Familiarity with electronic calendars and record keeping.
Experience working with diverse young adults.

Responsibilities

Leads the review of disability documentation and accommodation determinations by CLASS staff to ensure consistency, compliance with federal law, and alignment with CLASS practices.
Collaborate with the Executive Director and CLASS leadership team to implement departmental priorities, evaluate services, and support strategic initiatives.
Collaborate with the Executive Director of CLASS in strategic planning, administration, and management of the CLASS to include assessment of CLASS services and activities.
Provides consultation to CLASS staff regarding complex disability documentation, accommodation requests, and student support strategies.
Provides direct supervision for Assistive Technology Specialist and Academic Coach and Disability Specialist positions.
Serves as the CLASS representative and primary liaison for assigned campus committees, including the Housing Accommodations Review Committee (HARC), CARE Team, the Office of Institutional Equity (OIE), and other committees as appropriate.
Maintains current knowledge of disability law, clinical guidance, and emerging best practices and recommends updates to departmental documentation guidelines and accommodation practices.
Provides academic skills coaching and disability support services to undergraduate, graduate, and professional students seeking services at the CLASS.
Evaluates and interprets documentation of disabilities and provides recommendations for accommodations.
Assists in the coordination of Assessment Plan for the CLASS office and enlists support from CLASS staff for ongoing process improvement and benchmarking with other institutions.
Leads annual review and revision as needed of the CLASS Policies and Procedures Manual in collaboration with Office Manager.
Collaborates with faculty and professional staff across campus to identify and respond to changing needs related to student learning and disability support services.
Provides seminars, workshops, guest lectures and training programs to campus constituencies.
Serves as a team member for intra-divisional projects including other Wake Forest University departments.
