About The Position

The Disability Resource Center (DRC) Assistant Director provides enterprise-wide leadership for disability access, outreach, engagement, and programming across UCSF Campus and UCSF Health. The incumbent serves as a strategic consultant and liaison to campus and health system partners, community stakeholders, and individuals with disabilities to identify barriers, develop and implement solutions, and advance institutional awareness of disability and accessibility. Key responsibilities include the design and delivery of training programs, facilitation of educational initiatives and dialogue, and the development of outreach strategies that promote accessibility and inclusion. The role requires collaboration across multiple constituencies and providing high-level customer service to support the UCSF disability community and its allies. This position operates within a framework of anti-discrimination, equity, and compliance with applicable policies and regulations, and contributes to advancing a culture of belonging and access across the enterprise.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in related area and minimum three years of related experience or equivalent experience/training.
Academic advising experience and advanced counseling techniques.
Has thorough knowledge of opportunity and accessibility programs and can apply advanced anti-discrimination subject matter knowledge to facilitate a welcoming culture for all.
Demonstrated commitment to the UCSF Pride Values and Principles of Community and anti-discrimination theories to guide their work.
Experience in the development and delivery of presentations, workshops, and large-scale events.
Exhibited ability to collaborate effectively with multiple organizational units and overcome complex institutional barriers.
Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem-solving, and process improvement.
Abilities in project management, problem identification, and program outcomes.
Ability to professionally communicate information in a clear and concise manner across a variety of domains; solid knowledge and use of English grammar; excellent writing and proofreading skills.
Working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and experience providing guidance in a complex institutional environment.
Deep familiarity with and sensitivity to issues of accessibility and bias related to disabilities.
Ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential issues that require independent judgment and strict discretion and maintain strict confidentiality of privileged information.
Strong organizational skills, attention to accuracy and detail, and ability to efficiently manage multiple complex matters.

Nice To Haves

Master's degree in social sciences or humanities (Counseling, Education, History, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology) / or equivalent experience / training.

Responsibilities

Using professional Access and Engagement / accessibility concepts, monitors, analyzes and formulates recommendations on the organization's efforts to ensure compliance with government legislation and organization Access and Engagement goals. Leads the assessment and advancement of organizational compliance with disability access laws and access and engagement goals across UCSF Campus and UCSF Health. Applies professional concepts to analyze practices, identify barriers, and develop recommendations that strengthen accessibility and accountability. Key responsibilities include: Evaluates compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Sections 503 and 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and other applicable federal and state regulations. Collaborates with the ADA/504 Compliance Officer, develops and delivers training, consultation, and subject-matter expertise to campus and health partners regarding the implementation and interpretation of disability access requirements. Provides primary consultation on the implementation of disability related access requirements for university events and conferences. Conducts comprehensive assessments of physical spaces, programs, services, and digital environments to identify accessibility barriers. Formulates and implements recommendations that improve accessibility, reduce risk, and align with institutional goals and regulatory requirements. Supports program and departmental evaluations, including feasibility, reasonableness, and risk assessments. Monitors emerging laws, regulations, and best practices to inform institutional strategies and continuous improvement.
Develops effective Access and Engagement programs and standards. Leads the development and implementation of programs, standards, and training that promote disability access and inclusion across the enterprise. Key responsibilities include: Designs, implements, and evaluates enterprise-wide programs and initiatives that advance accessibility awareness and engagement (e.g., Disability Pride Month, National Disability Employment Awareness Month, Global Accessibility Awareness Day). Develops and delivers training programs, workshops, and presentations for employees, managers, faculty, and staff on accessibility requirements, compliance obligations, and inclusive practices. Creates and maintains educational materials, toolkits, and resources that support accessibility and policy awareness. Establishes and promotes standards, guidelines, and best practices for accessibility in programs, events, communications, and digital content. Builds and sustains partnerships with internal units and external organizations to expand outreach and enhance UCSF’s engagement with disability communities.
Works in a collaborative manner with others across the organization. Advances access and engagement priorities through collaboration with stakeholders across UCSF Campus and UCSF Health. Serves as a liaison to support coordinated, enterprise-wide accessibility efforts. Key responsibilities include: Partners with campus and health system units, including Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Patient Services, Information Technology, Strategic Communications, Resource Centers for Climate and Belonging, and other units. Serves as a liaison to disability-focused student and staff organizations, as well as external community partners and agencies. Represents the organization in campus-wide initiatives, committees, and events related to accessibility and inclusion. Facilitates cross-functional collaboration to address accessibility needs and advance shared access and engagement goals. Coordinates outreach and engagement efforts that strengthen relationships and promote inclusive practices across the enterprise.
Compiles, reviews, and submits required Access and Engagement statistical reports. Oversees reporting, operational tracking, and consultation activities that support compliance, program effectiveness, and continuous improvement. Key responsibilities include: Compiles, analyzes, and interprets data related to access and engagement programs, compliance activities, and outcomes to inform decision-making. Prepares reports and summaries that support organizational accountability, planning, and continuous improvement efforts. Manages program operations, including registration, tracking participation, and evaluating program effectiveness. Maintains and updates communication platforms (e.g., website, email, social media, listservs) to ensure accurate and accessible dissemination of information. Addresses complex access and engagement-related issues and provides consultation to managers and supervisors on accessibility requirements, accommodations, and implementation of inclusive practices.
